Job Description

Job Title: Teller/ Customer Service

Department: Retail Banking

Reports To: Head Teller /Customer Service Manager

SUMMARY

Provides front-line, high-quality service and sales to new and existing customers through lobby and/or drive-in facilities. Accurately processes a variety of transactions involving the paying and receiving of funds and is responsible for balancing a cash drawer. Follows established procedures in compliance with applicable laws and policies. Interacts with customers to develop rapport and refer new products and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Represents the Bank to customers in a courteous, professional manner and provides prompt, efficient and accurate service in processing transactions and answering questions in person and over the telephone.

2. Processes and settles transactions in an accurate and efficient manner. Follows all established policies and procedures including security and compliance regulations. Maintains teller differences and cash levels within established guidelines.

3. Maintains a basic level of product knowledge in order to promote the benefits of additional Bank services and make appropriate referrals. Participates in branch sales activities as requested or assigned.

4. Assists customers by answering general questions. May be asked to assist customers with safe deposit box access, following appropriate procedures. Refers more difficult questions and problems to a supervisor.

5. Performs and assists in branch-related settlement activities and rotated assignments, for example, stocking the ATM, maintaining the CCTV system, stocking supplies and promotional materials, etc. Trained in both drive-in and lobby functions.

6. May occasionally require duties such as working extra shifts, opening, and closing the branch and assignments to other branches to assist with staffing issues.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. Position requires successful completion of teller assessment test which includes cash handling skills, math skills and customer service aptitude. In addition, 3 to 6 months work experience in customer service and cash handling experience preferred. Incumbents are required to complete an internal training program designed to familiarize the teller with knowledge of Bank operations, negotiability of instruments presented for encashment or deposit and Bank policies and procedures. Trainees must demonstrate the ability to operate online teller terminal, ability to proficiently count currency and coin and meet provided training objectives.

2. Work requires skills necessary to operate general office equipment such as a typewriter and 10 key calculator and other branch equipment such as coin and currency counter, check writer, or drive-in facilities.

3. Analytical ability is required in researching and analyzing data pertaining to problems of a routine nature where selection of alternatives is limited, but where standard policies are established.

4. Interpersonal skills are necessary to deal courteously and tactfully with a diverse group of customers, greeting customers, supplying information, and referring to a supervisor when necessary.

5. The ability to speak, read and write English well enough to comprehend instructions, be understood by customers and legibly complete standard forms is required.

6. Work requires ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations using business math.

7. Work may occasionally require duties beyond the normal scope of the job such as working extra shifts or assignments at other offices when coverage is needed.

8. Work is under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to operate alone on routine work, referring questionable situations to supervisor or others.

SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires reasonable mobility within assigned work area to access equipment and files; the ability to reach and open the teller window or drive-in carriers to accept transactions; the dexterity to operate com-bination locks and keys and package currency and coin; and the ability to comply with procedures concerning security and audit control.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise or other disagreeable elements.

2. Exposed to a potentially hazardous condition—robbery. Receives detailed instructions to be followed to minimize the risk.
