Axient is Hiring a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting Near Arlington, VA

Overview

Axient is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting to support corporate financial consolidations, reporting and compliance representing a dynamic mid-market government contractor. This position will be hybrid requiring both in-office and remote support. Preferred geographical location is Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant is responsible for technical accounting and consolidations for Axient and its subsidiaries. These responsibilities include non-recurring and/or complex accounting matters, such as reconciling account balances, book tax entries and compliance, consolidation & elimination entries, purchase accounting, debt entries, joint venture matters, and overall assurance of ASC 606 revenue recognition compliance. Reports directly to the Financial Reporting Director.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidation and disaggregation of external financial statements for parent and subsidiary entities. Reconciliation of due to/due from between entities and ensure pushdown accounting election is maintained for subsidiaries.
  • Assist with the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation
  • Assist the Financial Reporting Director in revenue recognition reliability. Ensure audit traceability of firm-fixed price EAC changes. Oversee that project accounting and maintenance guidelines are being followed by segment finance.
  • Record revenue adjustments associated with contract closeout billings and true-ups. Identify issues and suggest problem resolution for discrepancies in billing or cumulative cash receipts. Coordinate with GL accounting team for resolution.
  • Maintain debt & equity accounting entries received from 3rd party valuation firms and CPA technical accounting firm. Prepare schedules as needed, and provide recurring entries & schedules to the GL accounting team for monthly entry. Revalue & reassess balances as required.
  • Research and implement technical accounting guidance and related processes to ensure compliance with US GAAP. Draft position papers and/or policy memos as needed and implement with GL accounting and segment finance teams.
  • Perform analysis and technical accounting research related to revenue recognition, software capitalization, lease accounting, equity transactions, debt accounting, and other non-routine transactions that may arise.
  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes for responsible accounts.
  • Review and maintain effective chart of accounts in cooperation with GL Accounting team
  • Supports internal and external audit activities. These include annual CPA audit and routine DCAA audits.
  • Maintain tax provisions, DTA/DTL balances, reporting & filings for C corp subsidiary.
  • POC with external tax accountant for reconciliation & reclass of equity distributions for tax.
  • Support management in completing special projects as assigned and be a technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives.
  • Consult with joint venture partners accounting teams to ensure accuracy for the company’s reported share of income/expenses for JV. Record equity and income entries as required. Knowledge of JV accounting required.
  • Assist with external audit activities including technical accounting work performed
  • First level review of initial documentation for assigned GL accounts
  • Prepare long-term and short-term debt files: review banking details provided by treasury analyst to ensure accuracy of debt accounts.
  • Effectively liaise with Controller’s office, Accounting/GL Operations and Segment Finance for implementation and maintenance of assigned accounts.

Qualifications

  • BS Accounting degree, CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with Deltek CostPoint.
  • Demonstrated experience in governmental contracting, DCAA auditing compliance, and financial reporting. Five (5) plus years’ accounting experience required. A mix of government contracting and public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience in financial consolidations of a multi-company corporate structure
  • Must be proficient with MS excel. Cognos reporting experience a plus.
  • Applicant must have good organizational skills and be an analytical problem solver with attention to detail.
  • Individual must be a self-starter who can demonstrate initiative and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must be a team player and display professionalism at all times.
