The vision and driving passion of Awana is that all children and youth will come to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. We do this by being the child-discipleship provider of choice. At Awana, US-based missionaries carry out this vision through relationships with churches. They assist church leaders to develop and lead ministries related to children and youth in a way that works in their particular setting. Awana US-based missionaries serve on a team whose responsibilities are guided by a Field Leadership team.

Today, God is using Awana to reach over 400,000 kids in the United States. With over 100,000 equipped leaders in 7,700 churches, Awana is able to play a vital role in evangelism and discipleship of children and youth.

US MISSIONARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Born-again and living in active Christian relationship with Jesus Christ. 
  • US Citizen residing in the United States of America. 
  • Awana Club leadership and Awana Ministry Team experience or equivalent training required.
  • Bible Studies Certificate from a Bible College/Institute and/or seminary. Courses in Evangelism, Missions, and Christian Education strongly preferred. Licensed, ordained or other ministry credentials a plus. 
  • Solid knowledge of basic Bible doctrine and Old Testament/New Testament surveys preferred.
  • Able to effectively present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to children and youth. 
  • In good relationship with a gospel-preaching local church with the ability to be encouraged, supported, prayed for and commissioned/sent (commissioned with a Commissioning service) for missionary work. 
  • Working knowledge of Awana programs, products, and solutions.
  • Agreement with and willingness to live by the doctrinal convictions as set forth in the current Awana Doctrinal Statement.
  • Ability and willingness to raise funding for personal income and ministry expenses in accordance with the Awana Fully Funded policy.
  • Highly proficient at using technology to communicate, including phone, e-mail, text, social media, and online video communication. Willing and able to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to travel regionally on a regular basis, and nationally on occasion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reach kids with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Build relationships with pastors, ministry directors, and volunteers at assigned US churches. Through the nurturing of these relationships, help churches establish a child discipleship ministry that works in their particular setting and develop to their full ministry potential.
  • Expand the reach of Awana by promoting the topic of child discipleship and launching Awana ministry in US churches not currently utilizing Awana solutions. 
  • Effectively communicate vision and information with donors, churches, and others in written form, various digital technologies, and live and video-based presentations.
  • Raise funds for personal income and ministry expenses following the Awana Fully Funded Policy. Demonstrate sound financial stewardship of raised funds. 
  • Maintain and promote clear lines of communication with field leadership and Awana central office staff. Report field activity in a timely and accurate manner, as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
