Autonomous Medical Devices Incorporated (AMDI) is an early-stage, California company focused on developing and manufacturing Autolabs and their associated test discs for human clinical diagnostics. Each of AMDI’s Autolabs are small, portable point-of-care diagnostics devices using breakthrough microfluidics, hardware, and data/cloud connectivity to deliver secure lab quality results in <15 minutes. AMDI has built a world class, multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, clinicians, and database experts and will launch its first Research Use Only (RUO) products in 2023 from its ISO 13485 certified 110,000 square foot facility in Santa Ana, CA.

Position Summary

The AMDI Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves, move fast and think outside the box in a quest to transform medical diagnostics. Our future teammate is a hands-on, passionate, and motivated person ready to tackle the challenges of point-of-care diagnostics, cutting-edge microfluidics, and assay engineering in both research and clinical settings.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Responsible for developing, updating, and enhancing subsystems and software using C and Python
• Work together with the electrical, firmware, (and other) engineers to develop software to control integrated hardware systems such as optical, electromechanical, and thermodynamic systems.
• Rapidly iterate through prototype systems to create software applications to aid non-engineers
• Troubleshoot and track bugs in prototype and pre-production systems.
• Execute good documentation practices. This includes following proper design control procedures, including maintaining lab notebooks.

Qualifications / Requirements

• A minimum of a B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar disciplines.
• 5 years’ experience in a software engineering position.
• Experience and expertise with programming in languages such as C/C and Python.
• Fluency in design and development on a Linux OS environment
• Experience using distributed source code management systems such as Git.
• Working knowledge with Software Development Life Cycle management.
• Experience working with SPI, I2C, UART and other interface protocols
• Understand, interpret, and provide feedback on software requirements for the project. Perform requirement analysis to determine the completeness and compliance with software system
• Experience with the following technologies: Unix and/or Linux Operating Systems (preferably Oracle Linux/RedHat), RESTful APIs
• Bonus qualifications (nice to have but not required):
  • Previous experience developing software in Medical Device (FDA Class II) or similar regulated industry
