Job Requisition ID # 23WD68121 The Vice President of Communications role represents a unique opportunity to build out the Autodesk brand, where corporate awareness has yet to catch up to its innovative products and commercial strength. This highly creative and passionate leader will develop, promote, and communicate an inspiring corporate narrative to the company’s key stakeholders, bringing the company’s technology to life, while creating a modern and capable global communications function. The successful candidate will lead and continue to develop, improve, and inspire a world-class communications program that effectively broadcasts Autodesk’s story. He/she will develop a comprehensive and visionary strategy that protects, promotes, and enhances Autodesk’s reputation among key stakeholders; articulates the company's business strategy and leadership vision; and promotes the company's market position. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Vice President of Communications will be responsible for all media relations; industry and technical communications and PR; brand and corporate strategic communications; customer communications; internal and external executive communications; social media strategy, content and listening; crisis/issues management; as well as financial communications in partnership with the VP of Investor Relations. Critical to the role will be to earn credibility and engage authentically with key stakeholders—including the media, employees, and influencers. The Vice President of Communications will be a bold, hands-on, and highly experienced communicator who will lead in a global, complex, high-growth business environment. Like all Autodesk’s leaders, they will have a collaborative spirit, a relentless work ethic, and a passion for Autodesk’s products and services. The role can be based anywhere in the U.S., with monthly travel to headquarters for executive and team meetings. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design and implement an integrated and progressive communications strategy to advance Autodesk’s brand identity and increase the company’s visibility across key stakeholder audiences, both internally and externally. Provide regular advice and counsel to the CMO, CEO, and senior leadership team regarding internal and external communications and messaging. Provide executives with a timely assessment of relevant issues and public sentiment, along with their bearing on the company and its internal and external communications efforts. Develop creative, thoughtful, and impactful proactive campaigns to promote Autodesk’s interests. Be responsible for identifying and tracking potential threats to the organization, developing, and executing strategic communications programs to mitigate those threats, and leading crisis communications and response efforts. Communicate with journalists and other opinion formers. Serve as a spokesperson; establish and maintain relationships with key international, national and trade media covering Autodesk. Help build internal communications strategy and ongoing programs for keeping teams informed, inspired, and connected to the company’s strategy, culture, and values Collaborate with the Vice President of Investor Relations on financial communications activities, including messaging development for earnings, investor days, and key financial disclosures. Lead, develop, mentor, and inspire a global communications team. Develop a department budget and manage within expectations. DESIRED OUTCOMES Build a dynamic, proactive global communications function and team that will support vigorous business growth, a powerful digital presence, and product innovation. Ensure communications build reputation, drive brand awareness and promote product recognition. Develop a strong understanding of Autodesk’s business objectives and build trust and confidence with the senior leadership team. Create an innovative story telling strategy that clearly explains Autodesk’s technology and strategy and brings the company’s story to life. Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing communications team. Effectively manage in an environment of high growth and change. Execute flawlessly. IDEAL EXPERIENCE Strategic Communications and Storytelling: This individual will be creative and entrepreneurial, with a proven track record of developing a strategic narrative and vision for a complex enterprise and communicating with clear and measurable results. Technology Industry Experience: Related software or technology experience, with an appreciation and understanding of both B2B and B2C selling environments. Advice and Counsel: Demonstrated experience providing advice, counsel and coaching to a CEO and leadership team. Media Relations and Crisis Management: This individual must be highly skilled at leveraging media relationships to protect and promote a company's reputation and brand. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing and mitigating crises with demonstrated judgment, decisive action, and a calm disciplined demeanor. Building and Leading a Team: Proven experience hiring, developing, retaining, and inspiring a team of communications professionals. Relationship Building: This executive will have a strong track record of developing relationships of trust and confidence with senior executives within the company, as well as industry influencers, members of the media, and thought leaders. Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $216,744 and $347,600. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range.
