The Outreach Specialist coordinates and facilitates the day-to-day needs of Outreach programs. This role assists with administering a range of programs that support local and state-wide animal welfare organizations and human service agencies with in-kind donations, trainings, and grants. This position supports the Warehouse Coordinator role at the warehouse, and fosters and maintains productive relationships with community members, donors, and affiliate organizations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate regular in-kind donation pick-ups and drop-offs for affiliate organizations, up to and including driving fleet vehicles to accomplish these tasks hands on.
  • Assist with the receiving, inventorying, and sorting of in-kind donations at AHS shelter locations and warehouse.
  • Maintain records for warehouse inventory (including best by dates, product location, etc.)
  • Maintain CRM and other program systems with relevant client, company, and program status and details.
  • Establish regular communication between affiliate organizations and applicable AHS departments to ensure excellent service provision.
  • Provide excellent customer service and foster positive working relationships with volunteers, donors, and affiliate organizations.
  • Collaborate with teammates and across AHS departments to facilitate impactful Outreach programs and accomplish organizational goals.
  • Participate, on behalf of AHS, in events and functions.
  • Supervise volunteers, both at the warehouse and for off-site events, as needed.
  • Provide regular reporting and detailed data to immediate supervisor upon request.
  • Proactively identify potential conflicts and provide thoughtful, practical ideas for resolution/avoidance.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be able to set aside personal judgement for the betterment of the client and the animals
  • Must be able to work well with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and clientele: different races, ethnicities, faiths, sexual orientations, income levels, etc.
  • A passionate advocate for and desire to work to improve the welfare of animals
  • Proven ability to exercise sound, independent judgment
  • Self-reliant, highly motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision and a positive attitude
  • Discretion in handling confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to work effectively as a team player
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively and shift focus easily and often
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Georgia drivers license or ability to obtain a valid Georgia drivers license. Candidate must complete AHS safe driver trainings and must be an insurable driver by the AHS insurance provider.
  • Ability to operate trucks of various sizes and weights
  • Certified forklift operator or the ability to train for certification within the first month of employment
  • Must be willing to travel across the State of Georgia as needed, with out-of-state travel possible
  • Must have flexible hours and be willing to work occasional evening and weekends as needed
  • Fluency in Spanish or Korean a plus
  • Animal experience a plus

Working Conditions

  • Performs work both in a warehouse setting as well as within the community
  • Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches, high noise levels, and strong smells
  • Safe handling of cleaning supplies and other equipment in compliance with safety rules and in accordance with SDS rules required
  • Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, supplies and lifting up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodations
