AST is Hiring a Financial Controller Near Tacoma, WA

What can I expect in this role?

The Controller manages activities involving the accounting department and is responsible for ensuring entries are timely, accurate, and comply with all accounting practices, standards, and regulations. This is a key position that works collaboratively and cross-functionally.

What will I be doing?

  • Develop, review, and monitor the financial and cost analysis processes in support of the CEO, CFO, functional business leaders, and Board of Directors.
  • Ensure all accounting and finance responsibilities are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with practices and procedures. Provide financial information to auditors, and ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure efficient use of the ERP system, while maintaining the highest integrity in all cost tracking and financial reporting. Establish and enforce policies and procedures for financial and accounting practices.
  • Coordinate and prepare financial forecasts and ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
  • Develop and document business and accounting policies and procedures that maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Manage all financial systems, to include: billing, A/R, A/P, month-end and year-end close, local, state, federal government reporting, tax filings and GL. Perform data mining and extraction from primary and secondary data sources and create reports using Excel and other database tools.
  • Utilizes business forecasts in combination with historic financial data where applicable to predict future financial results, supporting strategic business plans, and driving process and policy improvements. Identifies financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
  • Supports the improvement of AST’s financial status by analyzing results; monitoring variances; identifying trends; and recommending actions to leadership team and Board.
  • Work closely with outside accounting firms to ensure AST stays compliant and in support of their efforts.
  • Effectively partner with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives, drive process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Enhance existing processes for consistency, standardization, and to increase efficiencies and implement new financial processes and procedures, as needed.
  • Build, maintain, and drive robust financial analysis and reporting to help guide influence business decisions.
  • Develop and document business and accounting policies and procedures that maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO.

What experience is AST looking for?

  • 8 years of progressively responsible Accounting and Finance experience, in manufacturing or related industry, including experience with job costing and percent-of-completion accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline. CPA is preferred.
  • Experienced and highly proficient with ERP systems. Knowledge of Jobscope, SQL, PowerBI, is a plus.
  • Proven advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross functionally with all levels of management. 
  • Skilled in presenting data for the different levels of the organization.
  • Drive to improve, automate and scale existing processes.
  • Show propensity for learning, and demonstrate ability to identify, analyze, interpret, and deliver sound solutions. Resourceful and curious.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage multiple projects while meeting set deadlines of team deliverables.
  • Proven ability to make sound, fact-based decisions and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to adapt and excel in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent attention to details.
