What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Public Affairs position at Assembly, NYS?

Bachelor's degree and prior management experience is required.

Duties Description
  • Manage the operations of the Office of Public Affairs including oversight of legislative activity and Task Force events, as well as act in a supervisory capacity to assign duties and evaluate performance.

  • Along with the Public Affairs team, maintain the constant tracking of current issues and media activity related to state government policies and operations.

  • Identify and develop opportunities to garner positive media coverage for our Members and the Assembly Republican Conference such as press conferences, social media campaigns, press releases, public announcements, and opinion pieces.

  • Foster productive working relationships with reporters and media outlets across New York State to facilitate coverage and promotion of Members and Conference priorities.

  • Write and/or edit written work to distribute to media and/or Members.

  • Generate content related to Committee work and Session floor activity to inform stakeholders and interested parties.

Those who have strong organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and can facilitate relationships with reporters and legislative stakeholders are encouraged to apply. Please note, that there are times when this position is required to work later hours during Session, however increased flexibility is given throughout the year when not in those proceedings.

Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
