Aspen Art Museum is Hiring a Development Officer Near Aspen, CO

General Purpose Statement

The Development Officer contributes to the generation and implementation of the Aspen Art Museum’s fundraising strategy with a strong focus on individual giving, corporate support, and donor prospecting. Working closely with the Development Director, the Development Officer will assist in setting, tracking and achieving fundraising goals. This position will work collaboratively across departments to lead creative and engaging donor experiences while understanding and prioritizing the AAM’s institutional values. Developing new corporate partnerships for future exhibition and fundraising event support, will be some of the key metrics of success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Development Director with establishing, implementing, and reporting on the AAM’s fundraising goals, including major campaigns in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer and the Director. The comprehensive fundraising strategy includes major and annual gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation and government contributions, grants, winter and summer benefits, and membership drives.
  • Assists Development Director with expanding current development strategies to offer new and innovative ways for strengthening fundraising plans and membership events, always tying into AAM’s brand and mission.
  • Creates a “customer service” focused environment that ensure donors and members receive a personalized donor experience, including solicitation and cultivation strategies that match identified donor interests and seeks to build new connections intelligently.
  • Develops a set of sponsorship communication tools and strategies to cultivate corporate memberships and partnerships
  • Assists Development Director in managing corporate relationships and also tracking prospects for corporate support
  • Develops strategies to increase General Membership and Director’s Circle Members and develop effective programs for inspiring new members, retaining existing members, and creating stimulating benefits and experiences.
  • Participates in planning and staffing fundraising, member, and donor events, working collaboratively across departments to create a unified plan.
  • Acts as a persuasive advocate for the AAM, developing and writing grant proposals, appeal letters, funding reports, and other fundraising materials.
  • Sets systems in place to ensure prompt and accurate processing of gifts, donor acknowledgment, and reporting.
  • Attends events as appropriate to establish and maintain community and donor relationships beneficial to the AAM.

  • Computer skills to complete forms and paperwork and to use email.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic event-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment, and enforcement procedures.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Ability to work positively with colleagues, artists, the public, Board of Trustees, donors, and volunteers.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible development experience with demonstrated success in fundraising (arts or cultural experience) as well as campaign experience
  • Previous sales and marketing experience desired.
  • Proven ability to raise funds from individuals, businesses, and foundations with accompanying metrics; planned giving experience is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of Development strategies and trends.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong team-building skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and embrace creative problem-solving.
  • Knowledge and experience with software and tools such as Altru, Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office, G-Suite.
  • Some evening, event, and weekend work is required.

Hours and Work Schedule

This is a salaried position requiring availability generally from Monday through Friday, with an occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work. The Development Officer position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and will not receive overtime pay for all hours worked in excess of forty in a seven-day workweek or over twelve hours in a day.
