Responsibilities

The Chief Operating Officer for Ascension Michigan formulates and oversees the organization's planning, policies and practices in collaboration with executive leadership. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Participates in development of the organization’s vision, policies and short and long-term objectives.

 

  • Develops, implements and monitors operating budgets for areas of responsibility.

 

  • Leads efforts to provide high quality, low cost operations within sites of care as well as day-to-day operations.

 

  • Ensures that performance is aligned with Ascension’s practices and standards of excellence and determines interventions necessary to improve performance.

 

  • A strong commitment to the mission of Catholic healthcare and a personal and professional presence to provide moral and spiritual leadership on behalf of Ascension; a values-driven leadership style which is guided in thinking, in acting, and stewardship by sensitivity to the mission values of Ascension Health. 

 

  •  A highly effective communicator who will make communications a top priority within the organization and will be a responsive, relational, interactive, and accountable leader who will recognize the importance of building consensus and providing leadership with credibility, influence, respect, and listening skills. 

 

  • An appreciation of the challenges and the opportunities associated with being a change agent within the context of a multi-site and growing national health system. 

 

  • Direct experience and subject matter expertise in Healthcare Quality across the continuum of care; ambulatory, acute and post-acute care.

 

  • Proficient knowledge and expertise in hospital and health care related quality and performance improvement principles and practices, as well as regulatory and statutory requirements for quality improvement and patient safety in health care.

 

  • The ability to create inclusive teams that are active and enthusiastic participants in the successful implementation of quality and safety strategies and plans based on improving quality goals.

 

  • Possess not only excellent organization, oral and written communication skills, but the ability to persuasively communicate project proposals, plans and status to key stakeholders.

 

  • Ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.

 

  • Proficient in program development with strong leadership and teambuilding skills. 




Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 10 years of experience required.
  • 15 years of experience preferred.
  • 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
