Network Security Engineer The Network Security Engineer role is part of the Network Infrastructure team supporting companywide network, network security and voice technologies. The role has a broad set of responsibilities covering the spectrum of network LAN/WAN technologies but specializes in network security technologies. General responsibilities include operational support for network security technologies, deployments, and participation in design of the wired, wireless and remote access networking and voice services. This position must have a professional level experience with Cisco SAFE network designs and understand the Purdue model for process control networking. This position will interface direct junior administrators in their daily assignments and ensure they mature into professional engineers. These administrators will interact with clients as well as other support teams such as the service desk, helpdesk, application teams, project teams and server teams. On-call support and limited travel will be required as part of this role. Targeted Outcomes Over the next 12 to 18 months, this role will be key in completing the following goals: Support engagement for Ascend’s next Cisco Security EA licensing agreement Drive Cisco network security operations service baseline within the environment, providing gap analysis with mitigation plans. Provide operational support for primarily Cisco FirePower and Cisco Identity Services, however, they should have a working knowledge of Cisco AMP, Cisco Stealthwatch and Cisco Umbrella security services. Support operations and troubleshooting for the Ascend LAN, WAN, WIFI and Voice technologies used at Ascend. Consolidate, secure and segment networks using firewalls centralized Cisco FirePower firewalls. Lead an upgrade for Cisco ISE from 2.4 to 3.X Administrator wide area network service by participating in DMVPN software defined WAN design, implementing circuit upgrades. Participate in the design and refresh of the unified communications service to provide updated voice over IP, instant messaging, and collaboration offerings. Participate in discussions and security for the Ascend process control network. Oversee all network security services and interact with the IT security team on operational objectives. Key Responsibilities Network Security Services and Support Provide operational support of a mission critical 24x7 WAN and WIFI network, network security, voice and video infrastructure by: Employ NIST and STIG level security postures Deploy and manage .1X security design Participate in budgeting, provisioning of network security services and network design of equipment in support of company growth. Manage vendors in support of the network security infrastructure. Process Improvement and Project Management Lead participants in business projects to represent network, network security, voice and video services. Lead security upgrades and follow change management and controls. Participate in network security WAN and WIFI projects to design new network technologies. Manage project initiatives pertaining to IT networking. Education and Experience 5 years’ experience as a Cisco network security engineer in a mid-sized company. Degree or professional certification in the areas of Cisco network security environments Experience working in industrial environments is beneficial. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Ability to lead junior members in their daily activities, assign goals and track to completion. Ability to provide guidance and leadership to junior team members. Ability to work with vendors and 3rd party support structures Skills and experience working with Ascend staff that manage network related devices but have little or no basic networking knowledge Skills and experience in project management. Skills and experience with ITIL concepts. Skills and experience with NIST standards and how to implement them Skills and experience with software: Standard network monitoring and management applications, the Microsoft suite of office products including Visio, Microsoft SharePoint, and Office 365. Technical Skills 5 years or CCNP equivalent experience with Cisco security technologies (ISE, Firepower, Umbrella, AMP and Stealthwatch) plus general network experience with Catalyst and Nexus switch platforms, ISR routers, 9800 wireless controllers and 9000 series access points, and Cisco Security EA design. Experience with the following WAN services are not required, but will be parts of what infrastructure supports: CE MPLS, Direct Peering, Microsoft Netbond, telcom vendor support, trouble tickets for down circuits, reviewing vendor portals for performance and using cloud services like Microsoft Azure or AWS is beneficial. Experience across the broad range of Network Security topics and supporting technologies based on Cisco and 3rd party technologies. Understanding voice and unified communications is beneficial. Experience with specific network configurations, including switching, routing, firewalling, access control, network management and security, web caching and proxy, virtual private networking, quality of service, and voice-video. Experience with cloud based PBX unified communications technologies: Call Legs, SBC, Analog line break out, site survivable configurations when call manager, voicemail, conference bridging, and session border (SIP) communications. Specific experience with Cisco call manager or Microsoft cloud PBX is beneficial.
