Artisan Childcare Center is Hiring a Center Director Near Cambridge, MA

Artisan Childcare Center is seeking a Center Director to operate either our Cambridge or Newton location.

The Center Director reports directly to the Owner of Artisan Childcare. The center director creates a positive environment where staff, families, and children feel comfortable and welcomed. The Director observes, advises, and serves as a mentor to the faculty in curriculum management and development, record keeping and the classroom environment, child development and parent interactions and development. The Director is responsible for all aspects of staff and faculty professional development and training, as well as for partnerships with parents, professional and personal growth, collegiality, and administrative duties.

Center Environment

The Center Director is responsible for creating culture within the center that supports Artisan Childcare Center’s philosophy, pedagogy, and community events.

  • To create a nurturing and respectful Center that responds to the needs of each student, family, and teacher
  • To create a culture where positivity and open communication support Artisan Childcare Center’s philosophy with all community members
  • To uphold Artisan security measures to keep all community members safe
  • Ensure that the Center’s programming is developmentally appropriate and that teachers implement curriculum in accordance with the Massachusetts Early Learning Guidelines and Artisan Childcare Center curriculum guidelines, educational philosophy and pedagogy, and educational best practices
  • Supervise, guide, and support all teaching staff to ensure positive and effective classroom environments and workspaces

Student and Family Support

The Center Director is responsible for helping maintain positive child & parent experiences across all interactions with Artisan.

  • Collaborate with parents around issues of child’s development and education including special needs, referrals, and parent/teacher meetings
  • Respond in a timely manner to all parent inquiries and concerns
  • Mediate any conflicts between parents and staff
  • Utilize customer service skills to deescalate disagreements

Staff Development

The Center Director is responsible for helping increase staff development.

  • Ensure that teachers demonstrate developmentally appropriate expectations for all children in their classrooms
  • Always maintain a positive attitude and approach all staff interactions with fairness and positivity
  • Support the development of teachers through one-on-one coaching, character building and directed/recommended trainings for staff
  • Develop agendas and host monthly Staff Meetings and professional development or pedagogy trainings
  • Assist teachers in child assessments and progress report compilation
  • Encourage teachers to complete additional professional development based upon career goals and participate in goal setting sessions with all staff

Professional and Personal Growth

The Director must model lifelong learning and meet professional development requirements:

  • Attend professional development workshops outside of school to further understanding of ECE and maintain teaching/director certifications
  • Create yearly professional and personal goals to be discussed with the Owner

Administrative Responsibilities

To assist in the efficient and effective management of the school

  • Demonstrate professionalism and positivity in every aspect of the job and adhere to Artisan Childcare Center guidelines and professional standards
  • Assist in efficient and effective management of the center
  • Ensure that all EEC policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to by all staff
  • Conduct yearly reviews of all staff members
  • Order snack/center supplies weekly
  • Mediate staff/staff or parent/staff conflicts to deescalate and find reasonable and agreed-upon solutions
  • Counsel staff members through challenges
  • Lead staff meetings
  • Recruit and hire staff

o Attend job fairs, manage job board postings, conduct interviews

  • Conduct orientation
  • Work with admin team to ensure safe and operational facilities
  • Oversee and supervise Assistant Directors if applicable
  • Attend all Artisan calendar events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree required in Early Childhood Education or a related field; MA degree preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years teaching experience with children and administration of Early childhood programs
  • Experience working in a music based early childhood program a plus
  • Understanding of and commitment to adhering to educational Best Practices, including EEC and NAEYC guidelines
  • Ability to support faculty in curriculum development and implementation
  • Commitment to professional development and growth
  • Education experience in a variety of instructional methods, a plus
  • Understanding of challenges of multi-age learning environments
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of each child and family
  • Strong interpersonal skills which help to maintain positive relations between administration, staff, parents and children
  • Excellent written communication skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
