GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION 

The MRI Technologist operates the Magnetic Resonance Imagining equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts. 
• Position patients for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff
• Screen patients for MRI safety prior to procedure performance
• Assist radiologist with procedure performance
• Perform Radiological procedures when not performing MRI Duties
• Start I.V.’s, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol
• Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately
• Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions
• Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration
• Maintain accurate patient records
• Provide orientation for new technologists
• Provide education and training for student technologists
• Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MRI procedures
• Coordinate scheduling and patient flow
• Assist with education and training of staff
• Assist radiologists in developing new protocols and MRI imaging techniques
• Assist the radiology manager with ACR accreditation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology program with a minimum of one (1) year of MRI experience. AART certification in Radiology or AART certification in MRI technology. IV credentialed if applicable. BLS certification.

Ability to comply with all HIPAA requirements

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals and external vendors. 

Knowledge regarding quality improvement and standards of care within practice area. 

Capable of demonstrating flexibility with demands of external/internal customers placed on operating functions of the department. 

Basic computer skills. 

Physical ability to lift and position patients and assist with patient transfers.
