Archway Health is Hiring an Actuary I Near Boston, MA

This role will be based in our Boston, MA office on a hybrid working schedule and requires compliance with Archway's mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Actuary, this role will:

  • Assemble and analyze data to estimate probabilities of an event taking place.
  • Use estimations to develop, test, and administer policies.
  • Maintain existing and build new predictive models and analytic solutions using tools such as GLM, logistic regression and decision trees.
  • Analyze external and internal data sources to develop proprietary pricing factors and models.
  • Develop diagnostic tools to be used by underwriters in pricing individual risks and managing a portfolio of business.
  • Research new pricing techniques and actively seek out novel methodologies and algorithms.
  • Support corporate initiatives/projects that require analysis of medical claims data.
  • Build and run SAS/python programs and queries to extract data from the database and review to ensure accuracy and validity of data.
  • Perform health analytics in support of actuarial, underwriting, and decision making as well as developing new pricing models and benchmarks for use in modeling and pricing specialized risk arrangements.
  • Runs risk sharing simulation and model validations.
  • Develop an understanding of data sources and availability, uses and limitations to build datasets for use in experience studies.
  • Work on new innovative actuarial and healthcare reform projects.
  • Implement best practices analytical techniques and partner with data scientists in assessing the impact of loss trends and claims emergence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or Economics).
  • Successful completion of at least 2 or more Actuarial exams preferred.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in healthcare or related industry.
  • Previous healthcare experience in a Payor, MGU, or an Insurance/Actuarial Consulting firm desirable.
  • Experience in Employer Stop-Loss Pricing or Provider Excess of Loss Pricing.
  • Experience with Actuarial Science, Statistical Modeling, Predictive Models, AI/Machine learning.
  • Models, and Big Data / Claims Data Analysis.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft® Excel.
  • Advanced experience with SAS and or Python.
  • Working experience with SQL.
  • Working knowledge with BI tools e.g. Tableau Work Experience.

Preferred Competencies/Skills:

  • Requires an understanding of self-funded and fully insured products, underwriting, claims forecasting, risk analysis, specific and aggregate stop-loss pricing, aggregating specific deductibles, lasering, and captives.
  • Knowledge of healthcare administrative claims data is highly desirable.
  • Understand and use the variation in healthcare spending across different dimensions for the estimation of risk.
  • Must be able to analyze / synthesize data and communicate issues, findings, processes, solutions and ideas in a clear, concise, technically proficient and consultative manner.
