Archer is Hiring a Director of Construction Near San Jose, CA

What you’ll do: 

  • Maintain accountability for project execution, proper reporting, risk analyses, fiscal health, quality, safety and timely project completion of new construction projects.
  • Oversee that constructability and coordination are consistently considered across all projects.
  • Develop and maintain internal pre-construction advisory standards such that projects across the board are set up for successful construction. Ensure uniform cost estimating and bidding processes across all projects.
  • Ensure that construction professionals are systematically considering critical path decisions and construction methods to maintain schedule, budget, safety and quality.
  • Perform construction site visits across projects, as an overall check on both safety and quality.
  • Continuously discover ways and methodologies that efficiently disrupt the construction industry, create and implement these processes consistently.
  • Create, maintain and enhance regional partnerships with General Contractors, major subcontractors and key suppliers/vendors.
  • Facilitate communication across the execution team, including interaction with Design, Project Management, Operations, and Logistics teams.

What you need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, architecture, construction management (or relevant/equivalent experience)
  • 10 years of construction experience, including medium to large scale infrastructure projects as well as substantial collaboration with design and project management teams
  • 5 years in construction with growth companies with the ability to pivot in order to achieve evolving business objectives
  • 5 years of experience managing multiple projects, teams (internal and external), reporting to upper or executive management and responsibility for projects’ health (budget, schedule and quality)
  • Experience with projects larger than $5M contract value
  • Expertise in all types of construction contract structures (GMP, lump sup, stipulated sum etc…) and ability to participate in negotiations of contract terms
  • Expert knowledge of all building systems
  • Ability to direct and perform feasibility reviews for potential locations, efficiently managing and reporting risks along with key drivers for a successful project
  • Exposure to Integrated Project Delivery methodologies is a big plus
  • Expertise in construction best practices, fast track methods, building codes, ADA, OSHA, and other industry standards such as Lean Construction or Pull Planning techniques
  • Familiarity with design and construction technologies and platforms, such as BIM, reality capture methods, and construction/project management software
  • Fluency in all stages of development including due diligence, design, bidding, and contract management, and closeout
  • Willingness to travel a moderate amount
