We are currently looking for a full-time Janitorial/Custodial person to join our team. This position offers a competitive salary, ranging from $31,200 to $38,000*BOE, including the Benefits listed below. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE Janitor/Custodian: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Executive Director, the janitorial staff will perform daily cleaning duties of all facilities. All janitorial staff must be able to pass a criminal background check and central registry search.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

• Emptying waste bins or similar receptacles, transporting waste material to designated dumpsters.
• Sweeping floors with brushes or dust control mops.
• Mopping floors with wet or damp mops.
• Carpet cleaning classroom rugs and “spot” cleaning carpets.
• Using vacuum cleaners.
• Dust, damp wipe, wash or polish furniture, ledges, window sills, external surfaces of classroom cupboards, classroom doors and handles, radiators, and shelves.
• Replenish consumable items (soap, toilet rolls, paper towels).
• Clean toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, and drinking fountains.
• The use of chemical agents as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• To undertake wall washing or inside window pane cleaning.
• Conducts building walk-through with supervisors and complete facility inspection reports.
• Conducts daily checks of maintenance closets and equipment for safety and cleanliness.
• Assist maintenance department with snow removal when weather conditions warrant such a need.

Qualification Summary:

• Minimum of 2 years in the janitorial industry.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check and central registry search.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have the ability to clearly communicate effectively and tactfully with customers, subordinates, and management of all levels within the organization.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing work environment.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work related tasks and special projects.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to work day or night shift.
• Must be available to work day shift on Saturdays.
• Ability to lift and maneuver up to 70 pounds.
• Full range of motion.
• Ability to stand, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, reach above shoulders.
• Ability to maintain continuous walking, standing, bending or stooping for extended periods of time.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Sight required to visually inspect work site.
• Constant (up to 100%) standing, walking, pushing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching over head, handling/fingering, reaching forward, and concentrating.
• Ability to work in the cold for occasional snow removal.
• Ability to stand on a ladder as needed for high reach cleaning areas.

Work is for the most part performed in an indoor climate of average daily seasonal temperatures. Outside work is subject to varying seasonal temperature. Employee may be exposed to odors, chemicals, product spills, dust, loosened wax or water.
