Description

 Animal Dermatology Group (ADG) is the largest veterinary dermatology business in the U.S., providing the highest quality care to pets with acute and chronic skin conditions. We operate large, multi-doctor referral practices specializing in veterinary dermatology throughout the United States and internationally. In the U.S., our doctors practice out of 11 primary clinic locations and more than 25 satellite locations nationwide and we strive to lead in clinical practice, research and education in our field. In additional to providing advanced, specialized care to patients and supporting general practice veterinarians, ADG participates in drug/product development and clinical trials and dermatology resident training. 

 Animal Dermatology Clinic - Marina del Rey is seeking an Animal Care Attendant to assist technicians and other clinic staff by care and cleaning of patients and facilities including assisting in patient treatments, preparing antigens, assisting with surgical preparation/clean up and all other animal care functions as well as other tasks involved in the operations of a veterinary clinic.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience or training/education working in a veterinary facility, shelter or pet store.
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, “people oriented.”
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Telephone and computer skills are necessary.
  • Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments and to accept change.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working at a veterinary facility, shelter or pet store.

Authority:

  • Animal Care Attendant training as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Dependable attendance is required.
  • Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure.
  • This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand written directions.
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone.
  • Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing clinic equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, laboratory equipment, computers, etc.

Client Relations:

  • Agree to incorporate the principle core values, mission statement and vision in their daily job performance.
  • Demonstrate excellent relations with clients/pets in waiting or exam rooms:
  • Ensure that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Serve as “Ambassadors” for creating and maintaining goodwill for the clinic.
  • Build rapport with clients and pets.
  • Immediately greet clients and their pets by name making eye contact with clients while speaking to them.
  • Help new clients completely fill out the new client and new patient information forms. Be able to explain how to locate and fill out the forms on the website. Inform new clients about the clinic’s services, etc.
  • Exceed the client’s expectations of service.
  • If there is a delay, keep clients informed of expected waiting time.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and educate clients on general animal husbandry and answer non-medical questions.

Nursing Care:

  • Assist in ensuring that compassionate nursing care is the top priority for all patients.
  • Make certain all patients are kept clean and as comfortable as possible.
  • Assist in treating hospitalized animals under technician supervision.
  • Assist in monitoring all patients admitted to the clinic.
  • Ensure all patients are clearly identified including cage card and ID collar.
  • Assist in the organization of daily duties and medical-surgical procedures to best utilize staff’s time.
  • Flexibility in working hours is required to ensure that the job is done properly (willing to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary).

Housekeeping and Maintenance of Clinic:

  • Make certain entire clinic both inside and outside, including treatment, surgery, kennels, runs, parking lot and entry is kept very clean throughout the day (so that a client could enter the treatment room or clinic ward and see their pet without any notice). This includes your own clothing and appearance.
  • Stock supplies as needed.
  • Advise Key Contact of any conditions that are unsafe, including unrecognized hazards or infractions of safety rules.

Pharmacy/ Inventory Control:

  • Ability to process shipments of medication and supplies. Appropriately document which items have been received, document expiration date and lot numbers, and initial and date packing slips.
  • Assist in inventory counts monthly.
  • Inform the appropriate person when inventory items are running low.
  • Create prescription labels, fill prescriptions and dispense medications as directed by a doctor.

Examinations:

  • Ability to recognize fleas, ticks and other external parasites.
  • Ability to recognize potential patient issues (i.e. behaviors suggesting an animal has discomfort).

Record Keeping:

  • Keep records up to date. This includes client records with charges, medical history, medications administered, laboratory reports, etc.
  • Maintain all log books (ie: surgery/anesthesia, laboratory and controlled substance logs, etc.).
  • Handwriting must be neat and legible.

Laboratory:

  • Collect stool and free catch urine samples.
  • Prepare lab request forms.

Marketing:

  • Understand, participate and support planned marketing events and programs as needed.
  • Present marketing materials to clients in a professional manner.
