The position:

AMEWAS, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and talented Engineer to support Advanced Aircraft Research, Development, Test & Evaluation.

This position is classified as AMEWAS labor category Engineer.

This position is temporarily remote but will resume on-site in Patuxent River, MD after COVID-19 transmission precautions have been removed.

A typical day as an Engineer may include:

  • Provides technical and analytical support during the planning, documentation and execution of all F-35 JSE engineering activities.
  • Assists in requirements analysis, decomposition and tracing and managing the Requirements Traceability and Verification Matrix (RTVM).
  • Supports the management and documentation of the JSE architecture.
  • Supports the development and execution of the Capabilities Development Document (CDD).
  • Participates in technical meetings to facilitate collaboration across the JSE Enterprise in identifying and define design and development approaches.
  • Provides reach-back to Subject Matter Experts from the M&S competency based on JSE team needs and gaps in knowledge or expertise.
  • Assists in coordinating JSE team activities which include Subject Matter Experts (SME) responsible for JSE development, weapon model development, threat model development, red and blue air model development, M&S environment development, multi-spectral imagery data acquisition, scenario development, and independent analysis of simulation model capability. 
  • Provides technical and analytical support to the JSE IPT program management team, during the planning, documentation and execution of all F-35 Ownship , sensor, weapons, threat, air, and environment model development and integration activities.
  • Coordinates with Government model managers, intelligence agencies, and program offices to identify and obtain the latest models, simulations, tools, and databases for use by the F-35 program. In areas where models do not exist or upgrades are required, coordinate technical development of model, and align program schedules for development work to meet capability requirements.
  • Works closely with development and integration engineers across the JSE Enterprise to ensure successful integration of the F-35 IAB with the JSE. Maintain insight into prime contractor's plans, schedules, and methods of execution for M&S activities. Provides timely analysis of prime contractor plans, methods and status of execution. Specifically, monitors all aspects of Lockheed Martin F-35 In-a-Box (FIAB) development and integration to the JSE. Monitors all aspects of air, threat, and environmental model development and integration to the JSE.
  • Coordinate with IPT functional lead for contracts to develop program plan for contract actions necessary to initiate/sustain technical development work, including development of statement of work and review Basis of Estimates (BOEs), and provides technical input to assist the JSE Lead in negotiating cost of contractor support.
  • Coordinates periodic Government Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) of JSE development and readiness for test and operations. Assist in the planning and development of artifacts required for SETR entry and exit criteria.
  • Identifies and manages technical issues, risks, and opportunities and provides guidance and input to JSE IPT program management team.
  • Provides technical input to development roadmaps and program schedules, and the alignment of technical activities within and outside the JSE Enterprise that enables system development.
  • Assists the IPT Lead and Lead SE develop contracting strategies and finance plans in support technical development and integration.
  • Assists in organizing and actively participates in working groups, panels and teams, etc., takes minutes and prepares products in support of the Deficiency Review Board.
  • Develops creative ideas and applies innovative techniques to problem solving. 
  • Conducts analysis in both verbal and written form of JSE plans, documents and activities
  • Make inputs and revisions to all technical documents and plans related to JSE activities that support engineering development and integration

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the F-35 and F-35 systems
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Systems Analysis, or Computer Sciences
  • Experience with Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
  • Major Acquisition Program Experience
  • Mission Systems M&S Experience
  • 4 years of experience in engineering and program management of M&S programs

Must-haves:

  • Four-Year College Degree in engineering, systems analysis, computer science, or an applicable technical field
  • Experience in modeling and simulation, agile software development, and requirements analysis
  • Technical Project Management Experience
  • Ability to conduct and evaluate feasibility studies and risk assessments
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to draft clear, concise reports (often dealing with highly complex technical issues), to maintain effective working relationships, and to provide technical guidance and briefings. Strong oral and writing communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other program offices, other USG and DoD agencies, and senior US and foreign government officials at a variety of venues.
  • Ability to independently plan and complete assignments; alerting the supervisor when problems arise that would delay project or mission accomplishments. In addition, conflicts, controversy, or highly political issues are referred to the supervisor
  • DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Physical environment and working conditions:

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site. In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site. In rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
