Summary

The Environmental Manager will oversee the development and implementation of Ames Construction’s environmental management plans and policies. This role will also manage initiatives geared towards promoting the importance of protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review projects for compliance with permits, contract documents and environmental plans.
  • Complete annual reporting for all environmental permits such as NPDES/SWPPP, Air Quality, Individual Agency Permits, Local Agency Permits and EPA Hazardous Materials.
  • Provide assistance with On Road Diesel, Off Road Diesel and Portable Equipment recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct documented SWPPP inspections and sampling, as needed, for active construction projects.
  • Prepare Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans.
  • Prepare other environmental plans such as Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure Plans, Dust Control Plans, Hazardous Materials Business Plans and more.
  • Apply for environmental permits as needed for awarded projects.
  • Oversee consultants and other Environmental staff providing QA/QC on inspections and reporting.
  • Train staff on storm water compliance, storm water reporting and sampling protocols.
  • Serve as Environmental contact for regulatory agencies, clients and subcontractors.
  • Advises construction management on environmental risk, hazards and procedures to minimize environmental impacts.
  • Assist Estimating Department with pre-bid planning and cost estimates.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Experience, Education & Skills

  • 5 years of experience in Local, State (CA) and Federal environmental regulations and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Biological Science or related field.
  • QSD certification required.
  • Great working knowledge of storm water rules, regulations and environmental requirements governing construction projects.
  • Experience working on Caltrans and large heavy civil projects.
  • Preferred experience with reporting systems such as SMARTS, DOORS, CERS, AER and TRUCRS.
  • Ability/willingness to work in adverse climate conditions.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with all levels of project management staff, field personnel, subcontractors and clients.
  • Able to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to oversee and manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint as well as Bluebeam and Adobe proficient.

Working Conditions

  • Location – Corona, CA
  • Travel – Projects are located throughout California.
  • Office Environment – Extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
  • Construction Site Environment – Physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels.
