Position Description: Reporting to the Director, Accounting the Accounting Manager is responsible for the Financial Accounting of our Emerging Businesses and other legal entities to ensure the accuracy of Financial Reporting on a stand-alone basis. This role will not only ensure that entity transactions are properly recorded on a GAAP basis but also that direct and indirect charges are appropriately allocated to each of these businesses. This role will work closely with accounting, tax, treasury and FP&A in order to ensure allocations are consistent with business operation and inter-company transactions are settled in a timely manner. This position will also be responsible for reporting the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements of the Emerging Businesses including analyzing financial information, preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Financial Policies, Guidelines, and Protocols Contribute to the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice. Analyze departments and accounts to determine appropriate indirect cost allocation by legal entity. Analyze profitability of legal entities and discuss improvement opportunities with business owners. Work with tax team to assist in forecasting legal entities performance for tax provision purposes. Assist to drive the month-end accounting closing process including reconciliation of all general ledger accounts on the agreed timetable Financial Management and Control Track progress against budgets within established finance systems and report variances to more senior colleagues. Oversee and maintain reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Compile and analyze financial information to review journal entries for accuracy Data Collection and Analysis Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business. Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues. Analyze financial information to provide recommendations about efficient use of resources and procedures and to solve business and financial problems. Operational Compliance Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. OR Identify, within the team, patterns of non-compliance with the organization's policies and procedures, and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate. Prepare for and coordinate supporting documentation for financial audits. Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits. Information and Business Advice Provide authoritative specialist advice to senior managers at the business unit or regional level to enable the implementation of policy, projects, and change initiatives. Insights and Reporting Contribute to the design and creation of reporting strategies and templates. Lead execution of complex reports, identifying and interpreting complex patterns and trends, and translating those insights into actionable recommendations. Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close. Stakeholder Engagement Contribute to stakeholder engagement through identifying stakeholders, finding out their needs/issues/concern and reacting to these by arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment. Partner with selected corporate departments to help them understand their department’s monthly financial results and assist them in developing their future forecasts and plans. Partner with FP&A on new initiatives or business case analysis and resulting financial impacts SKILLS Compliance Management Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on achieving full compliance with applicable rules and regulations in management and/or operations. Evaluate and update the organization's accounting policies. Serve as a subject-matter expert in the organization's accounting policies related to inter-company transactions, direct and indirect allocations and frequency of settlements Anticipate potential risks or issues related to the organization's policies and develop a risk mitigation plan to accompany these issues. Enforce compliance with organizational regulations, policies, and procedures Planning and Organizing Uses comprehensive knowledge and skills to work independently while providing guidance and training to others on planning, organizing, prioritizing and overseeing activities to efficiently meet business objectives. Review departmental budgets for accuracy and process efficiency. Collaborate with FP&A and business during the budgeting processes to achieve the organization’s financial goals Assess inconsistencies in the actual and budgeted spending and identify proactive programs to prevent them. Review budget spending patterns to support financial resource management forecasting and the development of projected financial statements, related to the budgeted revenue and cost targets. Data Collection and Analysis Works independently and provides guidance and training to others on analyzing data trends for use in reports to help guide decision making. Demonstrate a good understanding of metrics and data. Identify appropriate metrics to assess initiatives. Leverage existing tools to meet organizational needs. Draw insightful conclusions, identify trends, and recognize patterns through data analysis and collection for GL account analysis Connect insights generated from multiple data points to provide insightful recommendations and verifying significant estimates Policy and Regulation Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on interpreting and applying knowledge of laws (GAAP), regulations and policies in area of expertise. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of professional accounting standards, requirements, and procedures related to the business Ensure the accuracy of financial transactions and reports. Oversee that the legal entity’s conforms to accounting standards, requirements, and procedures, and remediates issues in a timely manner. Keep up to date with most current professional accounting standards, requirements, and procedures. Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards Management Accounting Uses comprehensive knowledge and skills to act independently while guiding and training others on supporting business decisions with professional interpretations of financial information. Financial Accounting Uses comprehensive knowledge and skills to act independently while guiding and training others on classifying, measuring and recording corporate transactions using financial accounting principles. Ensure proper disclosure of the organization's financial statements and serve as a subject-matter expert in the reporting obligations of the organization. Analyze organizational financial statements to assess the impact of different processes that support general accounting and identify trends and areas of improvement. Integrate or improve the organization's month-end closing activities. Support the design of the organization's chart of accounts, according to industry best practices and business fit. Oversee and approve reconciliation and adjustment to the operational processes underlying financial transactions. Manage and ensure conformity, accuracy, and completeness of the organization's processes that support general accounting. Qualifications At least 3 years of Public Accounting Experience At least 5 years of accounting experience Working towards or successful completion of certification exams (e.g. CPA, CGA, CA, etc) Working towards or successful completion of Bachelor’s Degree (Accounting or Finance) Build a challenging and rewarding career with us!
