American Reading Company (ARC) is seeking a Research Assistant to join our Research and Evaluation team. This is a remote position that requires daily collaboration with senior researchers to execute ARC’s research agenda. The Research Assistant will support research activities in four areas: efficacy research, validity research, program evaluation/implementation research, and assessment research and development.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience conducting K–12 education research focused on literacy, assessment, school improvement, or a related area.
• Experience in at least one of our focal areas: efficacy research, validity research, program evaluation/implementation research, and assessment research and development.
• Knowledge and experience with quantitative data collection and analytic methods.
• Experience with qualitative research methods is preferred but not required.
• Experience managing large data sets.
• Proficiency in SPSS and Excel.
• Academic writing experience (e.g., research reports, case studies, journal articles, etc.).
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced team.
• Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail.
• Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster.

Role Responsibilities:

• Manage data sets, including cleaning and merging files for analysis, as well as maintaining data documentation.
• Identify and investigate data irregularities and collaborate with senior staff on solutions.
• Assist senior researchers with data analysis, including creating SPSS syntax based on the analysis plan.
• Develop appropriate graphical representations of data in Excel and/or Power Point.
• Assist in the production of research reports, research briefs, white papers, and other research-related work products.
• Conduct literature reviews including using online resources to identify relevant articles; gleaning key findings; writing summaries; and creating a well-organized repository of reference material.
• Assist in the development of quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments and materials.
• Assist with primary data collection activities.
