Job Description: ROLE OF SENIOR WRITER - **This is a remote, work from home role** The NHQ Fundraising & Marketing Resource team creates meaningful donor-facing materials to support fundraisers across the country. The goal is to inspire giving among corporate, foundation and individual donors. Our resources support the full donor lifecycle, from cultivation to solicitation through stewardship. As a member of this team, the writer will apply strong organization skills, managing multiple responsibilities — message development, content gathering, writing, editing, proofing and project management. This position truly helps advance our mission. This position can be fully remote. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Produce best-in-class fundraising tools, including but not limited to sales sheets, proposals, PowerPoint decks, stewardship reports, brochures, infographics, email templates and scripts. Gather compelling stories, photos and other content that inspire donors and demonstrate the impact of the Red Cross. Craft content into concise, clear, targeted copy that is tailored to specific donor types, which can range from corporate marketing executives who want to know “what’s in it for them” to philanthropic staff who want all the details. Mirror the distinct voice of the Red Cross. Collaborate with project managers on the development of tools and project manage stakeholder reviews, which can involve as many as a dozen people. When a graphic designer is laying tools out, project manage the design team. When a graphic designer is not involved, as with PowerPoint decks, work from templates to develop tools’ layouts. Proofread for style, grammar, tone and voice; fact-check for accuracy; and control quality. Work with internal clients to develop the strategic purpose and presentation of materials and help audit the quality and effectiveness of resources. Work with internet team to post all tools in a clear and useful way. Announce new tools via intranet, newsletters, etc. Support other F&MR projects as assigned. Secondary Responsibilities Work in partnership with staff throughout the department and the organization on various donor communications projects. May conduct research and create ad-hoc pieces, such as fundraising case statements, infographics and newsletter articles. SKILLS REQUIRED Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Marketing, English, Journalism, Communications or a related discipline Work Experience: Applicant has a minimum of five to seven years of experience in journalism, communications, fundraising, marketing or a related field. Marketing experience is strongly preferred. Experience in storytelling and/or at a mission-driven organization is preferred. Abilities and Special Skills: Mastery of short form and long form writing Superb editing and project management skills Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills, along with a keen attention to detail Ability to collaborate with people at all levels of a large, complex organization Ability to manage projects thoroughly and on time, including those with unique requests and expectations Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations Fluency in AP Style Technical Skills: Microsoft Office Suite Apply now!
