Job Description: The candidate will primarily work virtually from a home-office with occasional in-person meetings as necessary. Preference for candidate to be in the Mid-Atlantic states (NC, SC, VA) &/or work east coast hours. Position Summary: The Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) group supports ETL and data warehousing activities for almost every line of business at the American Red Cross. In the EDA Data Science group we use this data to create modern, impact-focused data science products. As a Principal, Data Scientist in the EDA Data Sciences group, you’ll be responsible for acquiring, manipulating, and presenting data within a highly complex data environment. You’ll provide business value through data mining, machine learning, advanced algorithms, statistical modeling, building data pipelines and data science workflows, and frequent collaboration with business stakeholders. You’ll apply specialized technical expertise to execute projects of high complexity, scope, size and/or risk that support business needs across the enterprise. The successful candidate will have a strong background in both research methodology and data engineering. This position serves as a lead on projects, assists in identifying new business needs, and provides training and guidance to other staff. Responsibilities: • Design, develop, deliver, govern and monitor ML models for advanced predictive and inferential analytics in collaboration with business stakeholders • Lead data preparation procedures, including data transformations, to support advanced analytics studies and development of data science models • Work with data engineers to continually refine and maintain Red Cross MLOps tools and procedures • Interpret, analyze, and deliver solutions for stakeholder data problems. • Develop visualizations and reports for business use to improve business understanding and optimization • Develop presentations for education and advancement of other Red Cross Data Science teams and for business stakeholders across the Enterprise. • Provide training and guidance to other staff. Lead and contribute expertise to projects. Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas. Scope: Senior individual contributor with comprehensive technical knowledge in specific area. Ability to execute highly complex or specialized projects and mentor junior staff help them do the same. May be required to adapt precedent or innovate to develop solutions. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree required. Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Skills & Abilities: • Comprehensive knowledge of modern data science techniques including supervised and unsupervised approaches, reinforcement learning, neural networks, clustering algorithms, natural language processing, Bayesian analysis, and experimental design frameworks, with extensive experience in several of the above. • Broad knowledge of current data science tools and expert-level ability with Python and the Python data science stack. • Proficiency with general database concepts and SQL. • Significant experience with cloud-based ML Ops frameworks, preferably AWS SageMaker. • Experience with complex, automated analytics workflows and ML Ops principles related to model governance and production model monitoring. • Verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate analytical insights/complex findings in a clear, concise, and actionable manner. • Extensive experience with analytic outreach and promotion and balancing competing business and analytic goals. • Experience working in an Agile environment. For those candidates located in Colorado or Connecticut, the salary range for this position is: $130K annual salary. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.
