American Jewish University is Hiring a Director of Operations and Strategy Near Los Angeles, CA

Maas Center Organization Overview

Since 1986, the Miller Intro to Judaism at American Jewish University has been North America’s leading program supporting newcomers of all backgrounds finding their home in the Jewish community. Beginning in 2013, we began making our highly regarded Intro curriculum (“On One Foot”) available to congregations and Jewish educational institutions around the United States and Canada to support their introduction to Judaism programs. Over the past six years, this initiative has grown into Intro International – which has impacted more than ninety partner organizations and serving more than 1,000 learners each year. Likewise, the Ziering Brandeis Collegiate Institute (BCI) is a 26-day exploration of self and Judaism within a safe, pluralistic community, bringing together young-adult Jews from all over the world with some of our people’s most compelling, talented scholars and artists to experience the multifaceted aspects of Jewish life and culture. In 2023, BCI will launch a 10-day pilot program, expanding the program’s reach to a college-age demographic.

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Operations and Strategy will work with the VP of Jewish Engagement to organize and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Maas Center programs. The Director of Operations will collaborate with program leadership on the strategic vision, design and implementation of future program projects. This is a key position with the responsibility of driving operational excellence through the service and delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operations and Strategy:

  • Oversees operations for all current programs and identifies, develops, and directs new initiatives, that advance the Maas Centers strategic priorities.
  • Act as central team support, managing activities and providing guidance on operational tasks and needs.
  • Analyze situations for the appropriate level of support needed and delegating when necessary.
  • Operationalize leadership priorities by driving strategic direction, scope, analysis, project management, execution and reporting for ad-hoc initiatives.
  • Act as strategic thought partner to VP of Jewish Engagement, driving an innovative, efficient and effective growth strategy for the Maas Center programs.
  • Evaluate and monitor the efficiency of business procedures, identify ways to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Monitor and manage departmental budget. Reconciling expenses against monthly statements and track payments of invoices, purchase orders, and internal requisitions.
  • Foster a work environment that is safe and engaging for staff.
  • May supervise staff as required.

Program Analysis:

  • Design strategic plan for Miller Intro International with the goal of identifying marketing, communication and recruitment plans to double the number of affiliates by year end. Should include plan for affiliate retention and contract renewal, with defined retention goals.
  • Evaluate current program evaluation and record keeping systems and processes. Redesign as needed to improve capture of accurate, consistent and data driven information about the utilization and impact of the Intro International Program amongst our teaching partners/affiliates. 
  • Support and collaborate with the Director of BCI towards participant recruitment and engagement goals.
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate feedback from Intro International affiliates and BCI alumni to identify un-met needs and create resources to better support engagement goals. Collaborate with staff team as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • 5 years strategic planning experience
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience
  • Strong drive for results, interpersonal skills, positive attitude and be comfortable managing and coordinating cross-functional teams
  • strong business acumen to collaborate with key stakeholders to support strategic business, data, and enablement initiatives Highly personable and enthusiastic demeanor, oriented toward recruitment and engagement
  • Knowledgeable about our services as well as the North American Jewish landscape and able to identify opportunities creatively and appropriately to better serve our partners
  • Extremely detail oriented and efficient, able to maintain records, plan events, and respond to individual needs
  • Effectively able to manage a team, has communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate, problem solve issues in the workplace
  • Able to creatively problem solve and anticipate and proactively respond to affiliate needs.
  • Marketing background is a plus

Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Vice President of Jewish Engagement

Salary Range: $100k-$120k Annual

Competitive benefits package, paid vacation and 25 paid holidays. Close early on Fridays for Shabbat.
