How will you make an impact in this role?
This position is on the Global Consumer Services Credit Risk Strategy team and reports to the Vice President of US CPS New Accounts.
You will lead the US CPS New Accounts Prospect Underwriting team, responsible for developing innovative solutions across underwriting processes with the end goal of driving industry-best credit results while enabling profitable growth in new account acquisitions. Specific responsibilities include
Optimize the risk-return tradeoff for acquisitions.
Continually enhance underwriting decisions by incorporating new data, new capabilities, new techniques, and changing factors.
Track developments in the marketplace to understand industry best practices.
Continuously monitor new account performance, conduct deep-dive analyses to explore areas of opportunity, and implement credit controls to address potential/emerging risks
Collaborate across Risk Management to align strategies across the customer lifecycle
Partner with Risk Products & Data Strategy Team and American Express Technologies (AET) to build and/or refine underwriting capabilities.
Partner closely with Decision Science, Fraud, CBO, and Customer Management teams to evaluate new data sources, track performance, and ensure profitability.
The ideal candidate will possess
Advanced Degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Computer Science.
Outstanding strategic thought leadership with a focus on innovation
Self-motivated, results-driven, intellectually curious and leads with external perspective.
Clear, effective written and oral communication skills.
Strong collaborative/interpersonal skills and ability to work in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment with strong attention to detail.
Project management skills with demonstrated proficiency in leading multiple projects simultaneously.
Expertise in underwriting or another core credit risk management function.
Deep understanding of credit card economics and the payments industry.
Externally focused and aware of the latest technology and market trends in payment, credit trends, credit behavior and external development in the lending industry.
Strong people leadership skills, including career development, hard skills training, coaching through business partner relationships, etc.
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
