Job Description

Job Description

Join our team as a Medication Technician to work in collaboration with the medical team. The Medication Technician must possess current certification to administer medications, as they will assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a medical provider. Interview patients measure vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height) and record information on patients' charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma (Associates Degree or equivalent preferred)
  • Medication Administration certification or equivalent required
  • Must be proficient in Computer skills
  • Accuracy and urgency is essential to perform all tasks
  • Perform other assigned tasks and duties necessary
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as a team.
  • Must have a valid driver license with no moving violations

Responsibilities:

1. Work as a member of the broader team to ensure a high level of service to our clients, including assisting with general housekeeping, kitchen duties and light maintenance.
2. Safely prepares and administers/observes scheduled and PRN medication (ex: oral, topical) under the direction of the Registered and/ or Licensed nursing staff.
3. Document medication administration/observation in the client's medical chart.
4. Notifies Registered and/ or Licensed nursing staff of any medication discrepancies and/or medical errors. In addition, will complete an incident report immediately.
5. Complete incident reports as needed for falls, injuries, hospital transfers as directed by medical staff. Reports medications not given/refusals to medical staff.
6. Collects vital signs and weight, observes blood sugar readings, documenting in medical chart.
7. Record client's health status to include vital signs, intake and output and other necessary observations. Communicate recordings to appropriate nursing staff.
8. Provide legible, written documentation of client participation and progress in the client record as needed and timely report any unsafe conditions.
9. Secure and restock medications from pharmacy as needed, check medications delivered from pharmacy against client's chart and place medication in medication cart. Keep medicine cart and narcotic room locked when not in use.
10. Facilitate telemedicine visits between clients and medical providers; internal and external.
11. Meet regularly for team education while maintaining active and transparent communication.
12. Complete all mandatory in-services as instructed per facility guidelines.
13. Provide support to nursing staff regarding client's health related needs.
14. Assist with client isolation process and infection control procedures.
15. Stock and restock medical supplies as needed during shift and end of shift.
16. Practice infection control always as well as proper PPE when indicated.
17. Must follow all defined company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
18. Follows the State guidelines for medication administration/observation.19. Assist clients with scheduling follow up appointments as needed.
20. Collect laboratory specimens and complete associated forms.
