Alyeska Vascular Surgery LLC is Hiring a Medical Records Specialist Near Anchorage, AK

Position: Medical Records Specialist

Classification: Non-Exempt

Status: Full-time

This non-exempt position creates new medical records and retrieves existing medical records by gathering appropriate record folders and contents; assigning and recording new record numbers; verifying insurance existing record numbers; inputting and recording; delivering records.

Reports to: Director of Administration

Essential Duties, Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Gathers patient information by collecting demographic information from a variety of sources; interacting with registration areas and physicians' offices; retrieving notes from varies facilities i.e. Op notes, outside imaging etc
  • Initiates the medical record by creating and processing the patient care record folder.
  • Maintains record availability by processing charts into the department; using chart mark-off procedures; facilitating chart location activities.
  • Retrieves medical records by following chart-out procedures; documenting reasons charts cannot be retrieved for statistical and follow-up purposes.
  • Keeps health care providers informed by communicating availability or unavailability of the record.
  • Maintains quality results by following organization standards.
  • Maintains continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains record of outstanding provider documentation and communicates with providers to obtain documentation in a timely manner
  • Maintains patient confidence by keeping patient records information confidential.
  • Serves and protects the Alyeska Vascular Surgery community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and IAC standards.
  • Enhances medical records and Alyeska Vascular Surgery reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Obtain records from outside facilities and merge with Alyeska Vascular Surgery records
  • Compile records and submit to requesting facility or individual
  • Work cohesively with other members of Support Services team as well as other members of staff
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma, Associates Degree from accredited University preferred
  • Familiarity with Medical office Records keeping, front desk operations
  • 1-2 years’ experience of patient care preferred
  • Superior communication & organizational skills

Employee must be able to remain in stationary position for 75% of time, person needs to occasionally move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery etc. Constantly operates computer and other office productive machinery such as printer, fax, scanner, etc. Occasional requirement to position self to stoop, kneel, and or crouch when adjusting equipment or stocking supplies. Person must frequently communicate with patients, employees and physicians to further ensure coordination of care. Must be able to lift weight of 15 pounds or less.
