Position Overview:

Alterman, Inc. has an opening for the position of Safety Manager. The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Alterman, Inc.’s safety program and current OSHA regulations. This position will provide technical assistance, consultation, analysis and training services for designated jobsites.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess specific job activities for safety risk and work with the Safety Department and project leadership to create specific job safety programs as needed to ensure the safety of our employees and confirm compliance with OSHA’s rules and regulations.
• Provide supervisory support to all field safety personnel
• Write and implement site specific plans / programs to ensure the safety of our employees and compliance with owners and contractor requirements.
• Manage and facilitate new employee orientations and onboarding processes.
• Travel to various work locations to provide onsite support as needed.
• Perform daily jobsite visits and safety assessments to assist the Project Manager, Site Safety Coordinator, General Foreman, and Foreman in identifying and abating exposures to our employees. Accurate records of these visits must be kept with hazards and abatements noted.
• Work with the Site Safety Coordinator and Project Supervisor to administer safety policies through training, implementation, and accountability.
• Support / promote Near Miss / At Risk reporting
• Support site investigations for all incidents and near misses, provide coaching/guidance for site safety coordinators when preparing reports detailing causes and remedies to prevent reoccurrences. Review incidents with the site leadership and corporate leadership as required.
• Ensure Training / Learning Opportunities are developed and appropriately shared and implemented.
• Provide regular jobsite safety training using safety meetings, toolbox meetings, or more formal methods as needed.
• Maintain working knowledge of current OSHA regulations.
• Review and modify safety policies as required and recognition programs, if applicable.
• Assist with the development of new training programs and present training materials to groups as needed.
• Assist the Safety Department, Human Resources and Management with the implementation of company policies and key initiatives, to including Safety and EEO policies.
• Survey lagging / leading indicators and promote / implement strategic initiatives to positively shape trends.
• Provide leadership support and coaching to promote employee engagement.
• Support / promote employee appreciation / recognition program for safe work behaviors.
• Notify and review all incidents, with suspected injuries, with the Corporate Health and Safety Manager to ensure proper care for our employees and case management.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a safety program in the electrical, substation, and/or industrial / construction industry.
• Familiarity working around energized electrical work, control of hazardous energies, proper PPE for each task, lockout/tagout procedures, trenching and excavation and Confined Space programs.
• Knowledge of current National Electrical Codes as well as local and state electrical codes.
• OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training or equivalent health, safety, and environmental certifications, NFPA 70E training.
• Proficient computer skills with all basic office programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook) and the ability to learn and use related software and systems are required.
• Must be willing to travel approximately 50% of the time. Most travel is within Texas but may require occassional travel out of state.

• Must be willing and able to work in an environment that has extreme temperatures, humidity, hazardous/loud equipment, and slippery surfaces.
