Alterman is Hiring a Cost Accountant Near San Antonio, TX

Position Overview:

Alterman, Inc. is currently seeking a Cost Accountant. The Cost Accountant will work primarily, though not exclusively, with Alterman’s payables, receivables and payroll teams in a lead capacity and will provide assistance to the Divisional Controller as needed.

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Responsibilities:

  • Attend San Antonio project announcement meetings and conduct finance sub-meetings to ensure proper documentation for setup of projects in ERP.
  • Setup new San Antonio projects in ERP to ensure proper cost center coding, sales tax and payroll compliance notation in the projects.
  • Enter San Antonio project original budgets and modifications to budgets; to include change order modifications to contract values.
  • Assist with detail billing for San Antonio projects to include lien waiver requirements.
  • Create T&M billing coding in ERP for GMAX and Fee based contracts.
  • Assist with accounts receivable aging, reporting and collections. Review daily cash receipts from corporate staff accountant and discuss any discrepancies or shortages.
  • Oversee the processing of vendor and overhead invoices. Provide backup to the San Antonio accounting staff to ensure timely processing of invoices. Facilitate communication with San Antonio purchasing staff and project managers regarding issues with POs as they relate to committed job costs as well as vendor invoice processing.
  • Assist San Antonio accounting staff with correct GL coding for overhead expenses and credit card expense transactions.
  • Maintain outstanding bond schedule and remit invoices from Contracts to AP.
  • Maintain COA permit schedules and reconcile to the permit accrual accounts.
  • Respond to vendor and/or customer inquiries as required.
  • Reconcile monthly vendor statements, research and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Reconcile intercompany jobs receivables and payables.
  • Oversee the accounting staff responsible for service billing and allocation of material usage on service jobs.
  • Oversee the weekly processing of San Antonio field payroll and provide backup to the San Antonio accounting staff to ensure timely processing of payroll and related tasks, to include certified payroll and union reports.
  • Assist corporate staff with monthly/quarterly/annual tax compliance and reporting.
  • Review San Antonio sales tax charged/accrued on purchases and reconcile with sales tax in preparation of the corporate consolidation of monthly sales tax report for remittance. Review jobs for appropriate accrual, work with purchasing to ensure proper coding.
  • Prepare and submit tax certificates to subcontractors and vendors as needed for San Antonio projects.
  • Prepare monthly projection reports for San Antonio project managers. Attend progress meetings with San Antonio project managers and San Antonio operations director.
  • Assist Divisional Controller with preparation of monthly WIP adjustments for San Antonio projects.
  • Assist corporate level staff for SA related audit requests during annual financial audit.
  • Any special projects or tasks as assigned by supervisor, to include accounting process evaluation to recommend improvements to current procedures and processes.
  • Perform any special projects or tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or University with a concentration in Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) to four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to analyze account balances for natural and unnatural representation.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for this position.
  • Proficient computer skills with all basic office programs (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook) and the ability to learn and use related software and systems are required.
