Alterman is Hiring a Contracts Manager Near San Antonio, TX

Alterman, Inc. has an opening for the position of Contracts Manager for the San Antonio Division. This role will engage with colleagues and direct reports in reviewing and negotiating complex General Contractor and Owner agreements and propose alternative language to manage Alterman’s risk exposure while establishing mutually agreeable positions. The contract review process includes in-depth analysis of the pre and post award documents and includes the coordination of client due diligence, contractual insurance, and bonding requirements. The contract process is time-sensitive and revenue-generating often dictated by customers, so this position requires excellent organization skills and focus to meet deadlines while possessing analytical strengths and superior written and oral communication skills. This hands-on position will work with all levels of employees and management along with external clients while supervising and mentoring the San Antonio contracts team.Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and review construction contracts, data-use agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc. All should be consistent with sound business practices, company policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulations
  • Ensure proper dissemination of information related to contracts under development/negotiation and the management of ongoing contracts
  • Independently establish working relationships with cross-functional department members to understand both strategic and operational goals and translate them into effective contracting practices
  • Guide cross-functional divisional departments in understanding and mitigating contractual risks and complying with contractual requirements and organizational policies/procedures. Provide training on contracting lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with contracting team members to ensure contracts are properly supported and to resolve contractual issues that may arise in the performance of the contract, with a focus on mitigating risk, while meeting customer needs
  • Leads the drafting of legal correspondence on contract related issues under the guidance of the Corporate Director and the project team.
  • Works with Corporate Director on developing, managing, and delivering contract, legal, or policy training and briefing materials, in person or in writing to internal business partners as to good contract management and contracting principles to establish and maintain credibility for the contracting function while increasing service to our internal business partners.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with reading, interpreting, summarizing, and negotiating various types of non-standard contract documents generated on 3rd party paper.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to use available resources to develop an understanding of the Owner/General Contractor requirements and see interdependencies between various provisions and the underlying project and company objectives.
  • Superior oral and written communications skills, including ability to prepare and deliver information concisely orally and in writing to address an educationally diverse group of employees at all levels of the organization as well as to individuals outside the organization. Values transparency in communication.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and control the work process in order to meet deadlines, accepts accountability, and stays focused under pressure.
  • Deals with others in a straightforward and honest manner, is accountable for actions, maintains confidentiality, and supports company values.
  • Gives the appropriate attention to detail and accuracy, has a commitment to excellence, strives for continuous quality improvement.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel and Word (redline and version control). Working knowledge of Adobe DC including text editing and document markups.

Minimum Education and Work Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a business related field, Pre-Law or an equivalent background.
  • Other professional legal certification is desirable.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in negotiation, revision, finalization, and administration of simple and complex contracts in a construction, legal, or risk management related-industry in a non-procurement role.
  • Supervisory experience to include coaching and conducting employee performance reviews.
