ALS Environmental is Hiring a Technical Manager Near Middletown, PA

General Accountability:

The primary purpose of this position is to support the activities of the environmental laboratory by providing technical guidance, project management, client support in relation to troubleshooting technical problems, methods development, results interpretation and compliance.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with employees across all environmental departments to ensure samples are completed accurately and on time.
  • Develop strategies to ensure upcoming projects will be completed in a timely manner with the normal daily workload.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory systems by working with the Quality Assurance manager to ensure ALS compliance with the Department of Defense (DoD) quality systems manual, NELAC and any other program requirements.
  • Support the activities of the production laboratory by providing technical guidance and client support in relation to troubleshooting instrument problems, methods development and results interpretation
  • Field clients’ technical inquiries as needed.
  • Provide assistance to the Sales and Marketing Team on technical presentations to be presented to potential and existing customer base. Also provide technical review of QAPPs and SOWs submitted for request for proposals.
  • Responsible for investigating all regulations and technical requirements for environmental programs.
  • Management, administration and responsibility for quality matters related to the business unit including technical audits, equipment calibration and maintenance and incident management.
  • Ensure the efficient operations of all laboratory instrumentation by providing the departmental supervisors technical guidance with relation to method compliance and method development.
  • Responsible for providing project oversight for environmental projects.
  • Must follow all proscribed safety and health procedures.
  • Revise or develop Standard Operating Procedures as needed.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Organized, detail oriented and possess excellent problem solving capabilities and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring the efficient operations of all laboratory instrumentation by providing the departmental supervisors technical guidance with relation to method compliance and method development.
  • Able to develop and maintain high quality laboratory systems and able to work with the Quality Assurance manager to ensure ALS compliance with the Department of Defense (DoD) quality systems manual, NELAC and any other program requirements.
  • Knowledge of all technical areas of the laboratory processes.
  • Able to field client technical inquiries as needed.
  • Strong Customer/Client interaction skills and experienced in client contact; able to create innovative solutions to customer challenges.
  • Knowledge of current methodologies for all analysis performed.
  • Good time management capabilities and able to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Excel and Word, and other industry specific software.
  • Good English verbal and communication skills.
  • Experienced and skilled at treating others with cooperation and respect, and be able to understand and value both internal and external customers; work well and act in a professional manner with all clients and company employees from branch offices.
  • Proficient in the knowledge of and responsible for investigating all government regulations and technical requirements for environmental programs.
  • Proven ability to learn new concepts quickly.
  • Dedication to supporting goals, objectives and philosophies of ALS. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in scientific field, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years’ technical experience or comparable experience/training.
  • Laboratory experience is strongly desired.

 Physical Demands:

  • Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management and clients.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer and other equipment.
  • Ability to travel to client locations.
