JOB DESCRIPTION:

To provide leadership and coordination for the improvement, implementation and evaluation of District’s Coordinated School Health (CSH) policy components and initiatives. Collaborates cross-departmentally and with all schools within APS. Brokers and maintains community based partnerships in support of CSH components.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Coordinates the development, organization, implementation, monitoring and revision of various community and school based programs, supports, services, initiatives and activities within the coordinated school health framework and department.
  • Coordinates efforts to ensure that the expectations detailed in the District’s Coordinated School Health (CSH) policy are met.
  • Coordinates short term and long range planning and prioritizing (including assessments, evaluations, etc.) for District Coordinated School Health programs, services and resources.
  • Works with school and community members to define, develop and implement ancillary programs, services and resources.
  • Supervises, manages and evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Keeps informed about current legislation, literature, and research on coordinated school health related issues.
  • Serves as a liaison between district and community resources.
  • Participates in district and community collaboratives and/or task forces.
  • Coordinates fiscal aspects of focus area related grants, including payroll and accounting, monitors and approves budget expenditures.
  • Serves as a control agent designee for grant funds.
  • Develops, aligns, monitors and supports CSH related programming utilizing a data informed decision making approach in partnership with both district level and community level partners.
  • Develops, markets and provides tools to support technical assistance for the CSH component efforts.
  • Provides leadership, technical assistance, partnership coordination and professional development in support of CSH component efforts.
  • Provides community and family education on CSH model focus areas as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Conduct the functions within one or more of the following focus areas and align efforts within all focus areas:

Focus Area: ATTENDANCE

  • Technical assistance and professional development to schools.
  • Supports to school level attendance staff and teams.
  • Raises awareness of and promotes attendance best practices.

Focus Area: BEFORE AND AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • District wide safety in Before and After School programs.
  • Identification and development of opportunities for programs, initiatives, partnerships, funding alignment and sustainability.
  • Program quality improvement and development.
  • School / provider partnership development and agreements.

Focus Area: FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Technical assistance and professional development to schools.
  • Capacity and leadership development of families (Parent University).
  • Raising awareness of family engagement best practices and district and community supports.

Focus Areas: STUDENT WELLNESS

  • Competitive Food Sales monitoring, tools and compliance.
  • School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) coordination and technical assistance.
  • Supports schools with nutrition and physical activity.
  • School / Community Garden supports, curriculum, partnerships, etc.

Focus Area: VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

  • Provides support for school volunteer outreach / recruitment, engagement/ retention, tracking, and recognition efforts.
  • Provides training, tools and technical assistance to school-based staff (e.g., Volunteer Coordinator, Family Liaison, School Counselor, Assistant Principal, Community School Coordinator) to align school goals with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of school based volunteer programs in order to:
  • Enhance student success.
  • Respond appropriately to the needs and concerns of families.
  • Promote and conduct informal discussions at school sites, and implement activities that connect families with teachers.
  • Organizes, coordinates and facilitates meetings, workshops, presentations, activities and events to develop training and support for school-based staff to plan and implement Volunteer Programs.
  • Provides technical assistance to school-based staff to help them create volunteer opportunities that support families in navigating the school system and more effectively support student learning.
  • Consults with Volunteer Coordinator and other school staff to support the development of ongoing volunteer program mechanisms that are inclusive and encourages all families to play various roles at the school and at home.
  • Provides outreach and support to volunteer partnerships.
  • Supports coordination of district staff volunteer program (APS CARES).

Focus Area: GRANT SUPPORTS

  • Coordinates district and school level processes to foster equitable and effective identification of schools and initiatives targeted for grants.

  • Coordinates processes and support to/with schools in order to ensure: staff capacity to develop and write viable grants (based on needs assessment, data, and a defined theory of change); submission of grant applications with a targeted and aligned line item budget;and grant implementation, reporting, deliverables, and evaluation.

  • Coordinates support to schools related to fiscal and procurement processes and deliverables (e.g. budget set up, grant aligned and approved purchasing, budget tracking, compliance with timelines, transfers, reporting, etc.).

  • Support partner/resource identification, contracting, agreements, and.accountability.

  • Serves as a liaison between funders, district departments and schools to ensure the program budget and purchasing are in alignment with grant funding requests, requirements, limitations, etc..

  • Provides professional development and technical assistance to schools in order to write, manage, track outcomes of, and evaluate grants effectively.

Focus Area: SPECIAL PROJECTS/BASIC NEEDS SUPPORTS

  • Provides support for Clothing Bank, including outreach and collaboration with donors, school stakeholders, families and media.
  • Coordinates daily schedules and acts as team leader for seasonal special projects.
  • Tracks quantitative and qualitative data to support grant writing and reporting.
  • Oversees inventory and supports manager of Volunteer Programs and Special Projects to track basic needs inventory and supply ordering, receiving and stocking.
  • Collaborates with Title I MVP staff to serve students in need.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in one or more of the focus areas noted above.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Effective presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Experience providing Technical Assistance/Support to various units/components of an initiative or organization.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Experience developing community partnerships.
  • Knowledge and ability to communicate and interpret data, federal and state laws and policies.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making, team building and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations, meet deadlines, work on multiple projects.
  • Proficient with word processing, database and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to work in and promote a team environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and (5) years of experience in program development, implementation, and oversight in fields related to the CSH model OR
  • Associate’s degree and nine (9) years of experience in education, health, social work, psychology, counseling, or fields related to the CSH model OR
  • High School Diploma and twelve (12) years of experience in education, health, social work, psychology, counseling, or fields related to the CSH model.
  • Experience in program development /management and community partnership development.
  • Experience working with school community partnerships and/or collaborative projects.
