POSITION SUMMARY:

The Project Engineer provides subject matter expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders in planning and executing complex network projects. Applies network engineering principles and meets DoD Configuration Management requirements in planning, designing, installing, integrating, operating and maintaining customer network infrastructure. Works with internal and external partners to design and evaluate recommended solutions to meet customer requirements. Configures and maintains routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices in accordance with DoD/DoN/PMRF policy. Conducts system wide troubleshooting and resolves system errors both in "stand-down" as well as "live" mission environment

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • Applies network engineering principles and meets DoD Configuration Management requirements in planning, designing, installing, integrating, operating and maintaining customer network infrastructure.
  • Has experience in engineering design, estimating, materials takeoff, or construction management; Has strong computer & AutoCAD skills
  • Works with internal and external partners to design and evaluate recommended solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Configures and maintains routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices in accordance with DoD/DoN/PMRF policy.
  • Conducts system wide troubleshooting and resolves system errors both in "stand-down" as well as "live" mission environments.
  • Leads integration projects by developing network engineering, security implementation, and integration plans for new network systems and subsystems.
  • Plans, Schedules, Integrates, Operates, maintains, and configures all network engineering assigned hardware and software associated with classified and unclassified network infrastructures including, but not limited to, routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other information technology infrastructure as required.
  • Accomplishes Cyber Security and Configuration Management related task/requirements utilizing the following tools: DISA STIGS and/or ACAS.
  • Participates in successful DIACAP, RMF, and Platform IT C&A Package submissions.
  • Configures and maintains network management platforms and the ability to monitor data on the network to provide troubleshooting & daily review of audits/logs.
  • Maintains 100% network device compliance with DoD directed IAVM program(s).
  • Prepares and submits Engineering plans, schedule plans, status reports, technical reports, procedures (operational and maintenance) to Management and Customers as scheduled.
  • Ensures compliance with the organization’s Configuration Management Plan (CMP) and Change Management requirements for all hardware and software relevant to the customer’s networks.
  • Interface and coordinate with management, team members, and the customer to assure mutual awareness of network development(s), security posture, compliance/non-compliance, and overall system status.
  • Perform other duties as required

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Environment:

  • General office environment with site visits.

Physical Activities:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, install and remove networking systems and peripherals; lifting, with a limit of over 50 lbs. (2 people required).
  • Must be able to work in sub-floor areas and crawl space in performing maintenance inspections, installation and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Position involves walking or standing; crawling, kneeling or cramped positions; and sitting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; 10 years’ experience in engineering

Additional Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in supporting DoD systems.
  • Experience I working in a team environment and participating in network engineering technical activities throughout the project life cycle and maintaining a close technical involvement with all contributing organizations (both internal and external).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading small to medium scale Network Upgrade/Replacement projects with CISCO and Juniper network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
  • Demonstrated MPLS experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in MST and RST integration/conversion a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in ATM and circuit based network connectivity a plus.

Preferred Certification:

  • PE or PMP Certification considered a plus.
