Alakaina Family of Companies is Hiring an Epidemiologist Near Atlanta, GA

The Alaka’ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a part-time Epidemiologist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Immunizations and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) with its Immunizations Information Systems Support Branch (IISSB) out of Atlanta, GA.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist in the performance of mathematical-statistical work where assignments consist of a portion of a larger project and are designed to provide developmental activities for the incumbent.
  • Research literature for covariates associated with vaccination and predictive modeling.
  • Develop and implement statistical methodologies to extrapolate IIS vaccination coverage data from selected jurisdictions of the U.S.
  • Develop and implement statistical methods to assess the quality of IIS data in comparison to other national sources of immunization data.
  • Write computer programs such as SAS programs to execute selected methodologies.
  • Develop composite variables to summarize a group of related covariates for modeling purposes.
  • Document methodologies and results, and summarize findings.
  • Attend regular project team meetings and provide updates.
  • Perform data analysis, ensuring statistical accuracy in planning data collection procedures.
  • Conduct analytical investigations using scientific methodology and problem-solving.
  • Choose the approach to solve problems from well-precedented techniques.
  • Recognize subtle distinctions in statistical results that require deviation from conventional rules and select and adapt techniques if necessary.
  • Perform and monitor the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques.
  • Prepare routine reports on studies and projects or apply knowledge of the technical rules and procedures to scientific projects and programs to maintain documentation and prepare analyses and reports of findings for tests and studies.
  • Submit a final project summary including detailed methodologies, results, and discussions at the end of the performance period.
  • Provide ad-hoc statistical consultation including method design, analysis, and reporting of results.
  • Support development of a methodology to assess National Vaccination Estimates.
  • Work with CDC designated resources to generate IIS-based vaccination coverage assessments reports using IIS awardee data.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in statistics/epidemiology, and computer programming, such as SAS (and related products, including SAS Visual Analytics and SAS Office Analytics) programming, including substantial experience in the use of SAS macros, arrays, ODS, and transferring data from/to Microsoft EXCEL to/from SAS.
  • Proficiency in creating standardized reports or dashboards from SAS datasets, including outputting Microsoft WORD and PowerPoint documents containing graphs and charts.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in the fields of immunization information systems and immunization services.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 4-6 years of related experience is preferred.
  • CDC and/or public health experience is preferred.

DESIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
