Ahern Rentals is looking for an Apprentice Mechanic I to join our dynamic team. This is an entry-level position. You will work under the direction of a journeyman.

Qualifications for the Apprentice Mechanic I:
  • Knowledge of methods of diagnosing, analyzing, and repairing malfunctions of engines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Basic operations and the terminology used in automotive service and repair work.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, safety practices, and equipment used in the automotive mechanic trade.
  • Read and work from manuals, vehicle manufacturers’ information sheets, and electrical schematics.
  • Install, maintain, adjust, and check a variety of automotive equipment.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot and repair automotive malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on completed assignments.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.
  • Education Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Trade school courses desirable.
  • Experience Basic knowledge of methods, materials, tools, safety practices, and equipment used in the automotive mechanic trade.
  • License or Certification Possession of a valid class C driver’s license.
Responsibilities of the Apprentice Mechanic I include but are not limited to:
  • Uses safety equipment, supplies, and procedures to perform job duties as required; reports fire, sanitary and safety hazards and the need for repairs to the appropriate administrator.
  • Stores and shelves equipment and other supplies in conformance with various local, state and federal rules and regulations; maintain equipment in a safe operating condition; maintains preventive maintenance procedures, records, and reports.
  • Uses a computer for entry and retrieval of information for work assignments.
  • Communicates effectively orally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Operates equipment such as vehicles, electric carts, electric power lifts, forklifts, etc.
  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, and supplies) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
  • Performance of maintenance, repair, overhaul and servicing of automotive (gasoline, electric and natural gas-powered) and diesel (heavy duty) equipment, including engines, drive trains, fuel systems, electrical systems, electronic automotive circuits, digital display systems, cooling systems, brake systems (air and hydraulic), chassis, wheels, suspension and other parts of vehicles.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, identifies and corrects mechanical defects in vehicles; replaces defective vehicle parts and/or systems.
  • Performance of road tests on all vehicles for the purpose of ensuring that vehicles are in safe operating order; responds to road calls regarding disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools and machinery.
  • Reads understands and uses shop manuals, computer-based diagnostic applications, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Maintenance of equipment rooms, shops, vehicles and tools.
