Agtegra Cooperative is seeking a Plant Operations Supervisor in Kimball, SD.


POSITION SUMMARY

The plant operations supervisor directly manages the work and interaction of groups within operations at the location. With a focus on safety, compliance and customer service, this position oversees all daily functions within a specified location. Carries out supervisory functions in accordance with Agtegra’s polices and applicable laws. This work would include managing customer relationships, inventory, and managing staff.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Communicates and promotes marketing products, services, and programs that meet customer needs.
  • Ensures the location employees are engaging in safe and secure work practices.
  • Assists with the operating and maintaining of all equipment associated with the blending, mixing, and loading of dry bulk fertilizer and liquid fertilizer as needed.
  • Keeps adequate inventories of all fertilizers within guidelines provided by the location manager.
  • Follow label instructions and proper missing orders when loading and blending fertilizer. Knowledge of products and use rates is a must.
  • Operate and maintain dry fertilizer bulk handling equipment (Bobcat, Forklift, and Payloader) in a safe and efficient manner and perform necessary preventative maintenance on them.
  • Develops best efficiency practices for our products, machines, and employees.
  • Understands, complies with, and enforces Agtegra Credit Policy.
  • Operates facility under EPA, OSHA, and Department of Agriculture laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Conducts annual formal performance reviews with full time employees.
  • Manages staffing levels for the location and hires appropriately while placing candidates in positions of best fit.
  • Makes on-farm calls and deliveries to solidify customer relationships.
  • Must have willingness to learn all aspects of the business and be prepared to proficiently execute any task that is required.
  • Acts as a mentor to all full-time staff and interns while helping them progress as employees and individuals.
  • Utilize forecasts and software programs while relying on experience to help leverage inventory control.
  • Build and grow the team through continuous improvement efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA, EPA and policies and procedures as they apply.
  • Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices, including program planning, contract requirements, budgeting, direction, coordination, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of Agtegra’s operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local, state, and federal regulations related to department programs and operations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate projects and programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Knowledge of management and supervisory practices and principles, including the ability to make final employment recommendations, preparing performance evaluations, managing time off, and maintaining personnel records.
  • Ability to adapt and take control of situations, dictating subordinate activities in a responsible manner.
  • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment and software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in English in both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, resolving problems, and building teams.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and outside the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (M.S. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and internet.
  • Ability to always maintain professionalism.
  • Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.

  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work has exposure to moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Will be exposed to extreme hot and cold.
  • Work is generally in a loud environment (e.g. business office, light traffic).

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Driver’s License
