AGS/Aetypic is Hiring a Senior Staff, Senior Associate, or Senior Geotechnical Engineers Near San Francisco, CA

AGS, Inc., an established engineering firm based in San Francisco, is seeking a full-time Senior Staff, Senior Associate, or Senior Geotechnical Engineers. This position is based in San Francisco, California and provides geotechnical analysis and design; and technical project management on projects related to infrastructure, bridges, traditional and specialty geo-structures, and ground improvement. Demonstrated experience in liquefaction assessments, seepage, groundwater, seismic response, stability, and deep foundation systems are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Competent to serve as Engineer-of-Record on design and design-build projects
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and execute detailed phases of geotechnical and geophysical investigations, testing programs, instrumentation programs, and other technical work
  • Responsible for project management and execution, including budget development and monitoring, management of all staff and subcontractors working on project
  • Provide direction to and mentoring to technical staff in completing project tasks
  • Provide quality control review of technical work, reports and deliverables
  • Prepare project proposals
  • Interface with client project managers, government regulators, outside consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to business development efforts, outreach and materials.

Specifics of Role:

  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical and geophysical investigations, instrumentation programs, and in-situ and laboratory testing programs (soils and rock, coal combustion residuals/byproducts, mine tailings, construction materials, geosynthetics)
  • Characterize material properties for geotechnical modeling, analysis and design
  • Originate geotechnical analyses and designs for pipelines, landslide evaluation and mitigation, cofferdams, traditional & specialty geo-structures, deep foundations, and ground improvement programs
  • Experience in deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (DSHA, PSHA, as well as numerical modeling) is a plus
  • Liquefaction assessments and triggering analysis
  • Prepare design documentation reports and calculation briefs
  • Coordinate preparation of construction document packages (drawings, specifications, QA/QC manuals)

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Work Status:

  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure/registration required. CA Geotechnical Engineer (G.E.) license is a plus
  • U.S. State Driver’s License
  • U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MSCE or PhD) in civil engineering from a U.S. college or university with an ABET-accredited civil/geotechnical engineering program is a plus
  • At least eight (8) years of relevant engineering experience is required
  • Candidates will have proven experience in successfully executing projects from inception, into planning and scheduling, through design, to completion of deliverables. Will demonstrate provision of strong technical direction/support for geotechnical aspects of projects
  • Specialization in geotechnical engineering is required

Other Skills:

Candidates will be self-motivated; have broad engineering experience; strong organizational, excellent writing and communication skills; excellent self-management and interpersonal skills; and possess specialized knowledge to successfully perform and manage geotechnical duties.

Computer skills will encompass the Microsoft Office software suite, industry-standard geotechnical analysis & design software. Familiarity with numerical analysis & modeling software is a plus.
