What this role is all about:
We are looking for a Laboratory Manager in Jerome, Idaho.
The Laboratory Manager position is responsible for managing laboratory staff, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are adhered to. This position ensures effective operation and maintenance of all laboratory equipment, manages the testing of milk, cheese, and whey products, and oversees the procurement of chemicals and other supplies. The Laboratory Manager works closely with internal and external partners so that that daily operations drive support of company objectives and ensure continuous improvement.
Acts as the technical liaison with the Agropur Protein Research Center for more sophisticated analytical testing to support high-end Nutrition Solutions manufacturing and testing.
Effectively utilize/perform/troubleshoot analytical instrumentation such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Dumas Combustion (Leco), Kjeldahl Nitrogen Determination, Near Infra-Red (NIR) and similar "rapid" methods.
Manage the daily operation of the laboratory and ensure sample compositing, in -process and finished product testing, and reporting is effective, accurate, and timely to facilitate the positive release of products.
Maintain open communication with sales, production, and warehousing when laboratory results will affect the normal process flow and timing.
Identify and implement improvements in efficiency, cost effectiveness, methodology, and safety within the laboratory environment. Involvement in cross-functional improvement teams, including the Agropur Quality Office, as needed.
What you need:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Food Science related field or another related field required.
Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Minimum five (5) years of previous supervisory experience in a laboratory environment required (preferably in food manufacturing).
Demonstrated leadership ability and strong supervisory skills required.
Strong technical understanding and applied skills of analytical test methods, knowledge of HPLC, and common protein testing preferred.
Working knowledge of food manufacturing regulations required.
Working knowledge of food processing and manufacturing, preferably in dairy manufacturing required.
Working knowledge of microbiological testing methods required.
Proficient in the usage of laboratory equipment required.
Ability to perform quantitative analysis required.

Our Jerome, ID, plant is home to about 400 employees and processes about7 million pounds of milk per day. This facility produces various types of cheese, including cheddar, monterey jack, muenster, mozzarella and provolone. It also runs various whey streams, such as deproteinized whey, sweet dairy whey, GMP, permeate, instantized and our top-rated BiPro products.
