Kelley Bean Company in Cavalier, North Dakota, is hiring a Plant Manager. Founded in 1927, Kelley Bean is an employee and family owned company that processes and sells the dry edible beans which are sourced directly from its local community of grower partnerships. Objective: Responsible for overall plant operation including production, quality control, plant sanitation, scheduling, maintenance, inventory control, grower relations and security. Essential Functions: These are the essential functions of the job which are required to be completed with or without reasonable accommodation. Other duties may be assigned.Supervision: Responsible for recruitment, selection, motivation, discipline and terminations according to company policy. Plant Duties:

  • Coordinate the day to day production and processing by directing the efforts of plant supervisor/production manager, mill operator, electric eye operator and warehouse foreman.

  • Promote Kelley Bean Co. with good public relations.

  • Incorporate good housekeeping practices on a regular long-term basis.

  • Improve the processing, including mill operator training and improving the processing lines.

  • Establish preventive maintenance programs.

  • Work with operations manager on capital improvement plans.

  • Maintain warehouse rodent control program to supplement monthly 3rd party service.

  • Continue learning and follow all PASS procedures and guidelines for Food Safety. Complete monthly PASS training for all staff in timely fashion. Complete on-line AIB Food Safety training.

  • Emphasize employee safety and complete monthly safety meetings.

  • Properly maintain company pickup.

Field/Grower Duties:

  • Work to improve grower relations and deliveries.

  • Provide technical assistance and field service to the growers in the area.

  • Assist growers in achieving high yields of good quality edible beans.

  • Contract with growers in local community.

  • Be aware of all grower production problems and give these accounts special attention.

  • Book grower seed orders in a timely fashion to assure the grower of proper varietal selection and to provide for lead time to allow Kelley Bean to have stocks on hand.

  • Receive the beans at harvest. This includes taking representative tare samples, grading and taring the beans, truck weighing, and properly completing scale tickets.

  • Keep current on bean research developments by reading, attending seminars and meetings.

  • Enlist cooperators and set up field trials as directed.

Reasoning Ability: Able to make reasonable judgments with many variables that are often changing.Mathematical Ability: Able to accurately complete math problems that include adding, subtraction, multiplication and division plus formulas to calculate percentages, ratios, volume, etc.Technology: Become adept at using Sharepoint, Excel, Word, NAV and Outlook. Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit, walk and stand. Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds required. Must use hands to feel or handle objects. Must be able to speak and hear. Close vision is necessary.Work Environment: Primarily office environment with moderate noise. Work is also conducted occasionally in a plant environment which includes loud noise, dust, mechanical/moving parts, and outside weather conditions.
