Title: Human Resource Manager
Position Location: This position will be based in ACT’s New York office.

Hours: Monday-Friday, hybrid position, requires a mix of remote work, work on site, and in-person meetings.
Salary: The base salary for this position is $65K; additional compensation is negotiable based on experience.

Position Description: Reporting to the Associate Executive Director of Operations and HR, the Human Resource Manager will perform a variety of administrative and operational functions for the department, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll and compliance, benefits administration, assisting in the enforcement of company policies and practices, and other special projects as assigned. This position requires a versatile HR professional who can effectively manage various HR functions and act as a liaison between HR and employees, ensuring seamless communication and prompt resolution of requests and questions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage the recruitment process (post, source, screen, schedule interviews, conduct reference checks) and collaborate with hiring managers to define job responsibilities and create job descriptions and screening criteria.
- Plan and conduct new employee orientation.
- Handle offboarding procedures and administrative separation transactions (including communicating with the payroll processor (Gusto) and IT, conducting exit interviews, and benefits information).
- Working with the Associate Executive Director of Operations and HR, assisting managers in communicating performance improvement plans and disciplinary procedures, resolving employee conflicts and misconduct.
- Assist in administering and providing information on employee performance management, compensation, and employee benefits programs, including enrollment and communication of medical insurance, retirement, fringe benefits, and time-off policies.
- Working with the Associate Executive Director of Operations and HR manage the organization's payroll and HR platform (Gusto). Process bi-weekly payroll.
- Serve as a point of contact for benefit-related inquiries.
- Assist in developing and implementing ACT’s personnel policies and procedures.
- Working with the Associate Executive Director of Operations and HR, maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. and upkeep of the employee handbook.
- Maintain employee personnel files and HR-related documents in electronic and/or physical form. Ensure confidentiality is maintained for all sensitive HR-related information.
- Support initiatives to enhance employee engagement and well-being.
- Handle HR-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the Associate Executive Director of Operations and HR. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in human resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field. Professional HR Certification is preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of benefits administration and payroll processing are a plus.
- Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of HR compliance, practices, and procedures. - specifically, US federal/state compliance requirements.
- Ability to handle sensitive employee and organizational matters with the utmost discretion.
- Able to build interpersonal relationships across the organization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, promoting mutual accountability and inspiring trust and confidence from colleagues.
- Knowledge and comfort with Google Suite and Microsoft applications.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to diagnose problems and implement appropriate solutions.
- Great organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in English is required. Fluency in a widely spoken African language is desirable.
