Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist

Summary Description:

 AeroTEC’s Aircraft & Test Site Operations Division, located in Moses Lake, WA, provides several areas of expertise and services to support Flight Testing, including, but not limited to, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Manufacturing (PMA), Aircraft Maintenance, Modifications, Repair & Overhaul (FAA 145 MRO), Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and Test Site Facilities Management.

The primary responsibility for the EH&S Specialist is to ensure that AeroTEC facilities (Moses Lake, Seattle) comply with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  1. Operate the maintenance and implementation of safety programs, compliance plans, and initiatives.
  2. Responsible for the investigation of any/all incidents, near misses and property damage incidents. Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and proper records/documents are maintained.
  3. Ensure company maintains training compliance with all federal, state and local laws, regulations and agencies. Conduct, coordinate and track various trainings to support company programs.
  4. Conduct routine safety observations to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures and practices.
  5. Maintain internal and regulatory reporting including data collection and reporting including but not limited to air, storm water and surface water discharge.
  6. Ensure the company meets all its legislative compliance obligations with FAA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, DOE, L&I, and fire codes.
  7. Serve as primary contact for all regulatory agencies for inspections, permitting, and reporting (air, water, waste).
  8. Maintain compliance with permits, government regulations and other industry practices.
  9. Keep abreast of any safety and environmental law or regulation changes that impact the organization.
  10. Proactively identify safety issues and act as a “champion of safety” for the organization:
    • Be an active role model concerning any/all company environmental, health and safety concerns.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with Managers, Supervisors, Leads, and employees.
  11. Oversee the Company’s Safety Committee Meetings Program. Assign Chairpersons appropriately. Ensure workplace safety and regulatory concerns and opportunities are reviewed and discussed and that action plans are executed. Participate in meetings occasionally to ensure effectiveness and compliance of the program.
  12. Maintain the company’s written Safety Plan (APP).
  13. Educate and oversee employees on health and safety procedures and regulations
  14. Keep the Manager, AFTC and the Human Resources Manager up to date on matters relating to environmental, health and safety.
  15. Provide information to Human Resources upon request regarding Worker’s Compensation claims and processing.
  16. Special tasks and projects as assigned by Manager.

Level Requirements (Minimum):

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field – preferred.

Experience

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a manufacturing environment with responsibility for the organization’s Environmental, Health and Safety Program. Proven track record of reducing injuries and incidents.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies is required.
  • Experience working with various emission control devices (to ensure compliance) - preferred.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others in an occasionally busy/noisy environment. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
  • Ability to be present at worksite up to 12-hour days as requested is required. Ability to be on call as scheduled.
  • Travel (flying and driving) to various domestic worksites is required.
