The Opportunity

Adept is hiring Packaging Engineers to support our fast-growing teams in the Food and Beverage sector. The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for leading packaging innovation, maintaining current product portfolio, troubleshooting packaging quality concerns and optimizing material cost savings initiatives. This includes new packaging development from concept to commercialization, cost reduction and optimization initiatives, improving manufacturing operations and managing packaging specifications. This position reports to the Associate Director of the CPG team with Adept and will support, who is in Chicago, IL.

Key Responsibilities

• Support product initiatives, packaging design and performance enhancements, cost-improvement efforts, and promotional activities.
• Assist with packaging qualifications by generating packaging protocols, overseeing test execution, analyzing test data, and authoring qualification reports.
• Creates and manages product specifications and BOM reviews
• Initiate and coordinate packaging line trials onsite at manufacturing locations, including planning, conducting and post-trial activities.
• Provides onsite monitoring and technical assistance to operations when testing/manufacturing new products.
• Maintains accurate and complete records, analyzes reports
• Works with cross-functional team members to flawlessly implement new packaging materials, manufacturing processes and new equipment
• Works with packaging and equipment vendors to create and test packaging materials for innovation and optimization opportunities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering.
• 2 years packaging engineering experience.
• Pro-active self-starter, willing to accept responsibility for completion of business tasks. Must be a driven individual that can take ownership of projects and complete all the relevant R&D tasks required for the job with minimal oversight.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials (primary, secondary, tertiary) and basic understanding/interest in food/meat science
• Deep understanding of root cause analysis and is comfortable using these skills to investigate and solve problems at the manufacturing level.
• Understanding of the full packaging development and qualification process (or stage gate process).
• Able to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) skills required with attention to detail and accuracy mandatory
• Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently.
