Ad Hoc Team is Hiring a Remote Senior Software Engineer DevOps, (remote)

This is a remote position.

Our work enables agencies to meet the needs of their users while closing the gap between consumer expectations and government.

The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the Office of the Chief Technology Officer - Digital Experience, the Office of Information Technology, the Veterans Health Administration, and the Veterans Benefits Administration to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their Families and Caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable VA to increase the usage, throughput, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.

Some Basic Requirements

  • Years of Experience: 8 years
  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required
  • Acceptable Substitution for Degree: Additional 8 years of relevant experience
  • Our Federal contracts require that you be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for employment.
  • All work must be conducted within the U.S.
  • Our technical screening involves completing a homework assignment that is then graded blindly to remove bias. We do not do tricky, unreliable whiteboarding tests.

What You'll Do

  • Shipping software that impacts the lives of millions of people and Veterans
  • Building libraries, modules, and packages for other infrastructure engineers to integrate with their projects
  • Collaborating across teams to consolidate and simplify DevOps tools and services,
  • Maintaining Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) processes to support infrastructure for API Development teams on developer.va.gov
  • Working closely with our government partners and app teams to ensure that we are shipping software that meets security, SLA, and performance requirements
  • Solving problems in ways that drive towards simplicity of architecture and operations

What You'll Bring

  • Experience with shell scripting such as Bash
  • Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and GitHub actions
  • Experience in software design and development, architecture, operations
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Experience building optimized containers with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, in particular EKS and ECS, CloudWatch, IAM, EC2, and S3
  • Knowledge of modern programming language best practices
  • Experience collaborating with other teams, adopting their goals as your own
  • Familiarity with static analysis tools and other CI tools used for security and compliance
  • Solid spelling, grammar, and communication skills

In support of the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, and others like it across the country, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $113,900 - $149,040 and information on benefits offered is here.
