Description

Position Overview: It is the responsibility of every employee to promote the mission and vision of ACCF, as they foster programs and activities that promote the academic, social, emotional and physical development of each child enrolled.

The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for providing a high quality learning environment to children and families enrolled. This position implements age-appropriate curriculum, establishes and maintains supportive relationships with children and parents, evaluates developmental growth, and assesses educational outcomes. Delivery of childcare must model best practices as outlined by agency policies as well as licensing, monitoring, funding, and contract agencies.

Classification: Exempt (Full Time)

Reports to: Early Learning Program Director

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and maintain a safe, stimulating learning environment utilizing best practices; organize and label classroom materials, and display children’s work in a manner appropriate for their age and perceptual skills
  • Design and implement intentional and developmentally appropriate learning activities for children between the ages of 1 and 5 consistent with the curriculum of the Early Learning Program; engage and foster growth for children in nine areas of learning and development (cognitive, socio-emotional, language, literacy, math, physical, art, social studies, and science)
  • Supervise, guide and model appropriate behavior, and implement developmentally appropriate classroom management system to foster socio-emotional learning
  • Maintain a clean environment by sterilizing communal toys, spaces and floors; stores classroom materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner
  • Maintain accurate and current assessment information across all developmental domains utilizing Teaching Strategies Gold, Ages and Stages, VPK assessment, and Bracken assessment tools
  • Use assessment information in planning whole group, small group, and individualized instruction
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude while working with co-teacher, additional program staff, parents, and volunteers
  • Build collaborative relationships with families through daily communication, family engagement opportunities, and parent conferencing
  • Accurately complete all paperwork on time including lesson plans, individual plans, and parent teacher conference forms
  • Encourage and model language development, extended learning and problem solving strategies, and build positive relationships with students
  • Ask for instructional support from the Curriculum Specialist as needed
  • Monitor and refer children to the Developmental Specialist as needed
  • Participate in professional development opportunities; attend meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops as requested
  • Adhere to center policies and procedures and those of monitoring and licensing agencies (e.g. Head Start, Voluntary Pre-kindergarten, Strong Minds, Early Learning Coalition, NAEYC, and Department of Health)

Other Employment Information

  • Must pass fingerprinting and background check
  • Initial drug screening; random checking
  • 90-day initial evaluation period

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) or AA in early childhood (BA or higher preferred); teachers without an AA must enroll in school until completed
  • Experience teaching toddler and or preschool-age children (ages 1–5)
  • 45-Hour DCF Childcare Training Credential
  • Bilingual English/Creole or English/Spanish preferred
