Heights Philadelphia is Hiring a Middle Schools Advisor, College Access and Equity Near Philadelphia, PA
About this Role The Access and Equity Advisor will be responsible for helping a cohort of students in 6th-8th grade throughout their middle school experience. This position provides individual and small group advising and supports students through making positive academic and extracurricular decisions. The Access and Equity Advisors will also work closely with peers to support student recruitment into high schools that are the best fit for them and provide summer opportunities facilitated by Heights. This is a Monday through Friday position with occasional weekend hours and will be based at partner middle school.

Increase the percentage of low-income students, with an emphasis on Black, Brown, and First-Generation-to-College youth, prepared for and admitted to highly selective public high schools, colleges, and workforce
Offer high-quality services to middle school students that increase academic and career readiness
Create opportunities that reflect a deep respect for and value of students in Philadelphia
You’ll be responsible for:
Providing one-to-one and small group advising for cohorts of students across two K-8, public schools
Facilitating a series of activities focused on achieving grade-level benchmarks
Helping students identify out-of-school programming, navigate the high school application process, and advocate for themselves
Recording notes on advising sessions using templates designated by administrators and leveraging data to determine supports (for example tutoring and enrichment) and partnerships that will increase student preparation
Supporting development and execution of out-of-school programming including opportunities through Philadelphia Youth Network, after-school activities, and summer programming, as well as large-scale initiatives
Attending meetings and training as required for program staff
Other duties as assigned
About you:
Have a Bachelor’s degree
Passionate about educational access for underserved communities
Experience working directly with youth through mentorship, teaching or general youth program implementation
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and evident ability to handle multiple projects
Skilled in keeping data, analyzing data, and creating reports or evaluations
Ability to think strategically, identify potential problems, innovate, and provide proactive solutions
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative relationships with families, students, school partners, and external partners
Knowledge of Philadelphia’s high school admissions process is preferred but not required
Proficient in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat, Gmail, Calendar, Meet), and/or Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Heights employees:
Must meet expectations to report in-person on a schedule determined by their direct manager and/or the Vice President of the team.
Must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check at hire and every five years thereafter.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and complete an I-9 employment verification form.
Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners and colleagues
Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc)
Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting and review.
Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners.

Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate controlled.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
