Service Unit Overview:
The Access & Information Services (AIS) department provides in-person and online reference and research support for library patrons, retrieves and routes library materials between UMTC campus libraries, circulates materials from service desks and directly to users' homes and offices, maintains an extensive physical collection, and oversees borrowing privileges and fines for the Twin Cities. The department functions as the "front door of the Libraries", reflecting that the spaces supported by the department are a core feature of the Libraries' mission to provide a successful student experience.
AIS is part of the Student Success Service Area, which includes and works with the Affordable Learning and Open Education (ALOE), Engagement, Outreach, & Community Partnerships (EOCP), and Student Experience, Learning & Accessibility (SELA) departments. This position will work in two libraries that span the East Bank and West Bank units of AIS.
The East Bank AIS Unit integrates experiential learning, course material services, and access services with undergraduate services. The unit comprises staff who provide general and specialized information services, including: makerspaces, media services, technology space support, all aspects of course materials, coordinated access services, undergraduate teaching and support, tutoring support, and instructional design.
The West Bank AIS Unit, within the Access and Information Services (AIS) Department, is housed within the Music and Wilson Libraries on the West Bank of the Minneapolis U of M Campus. The unit is made up of a number of functional areas that support staffing for 3 distinct service points, and facilitates daily operations and patron access to our resources. The unit supports collections that house over 2 million print volumes in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Professional Program subject areas.
Position Overview:
This Library Assistant 3 position provides information services in the Walter and Wilson Libraries. The position will act as a resource for student employees, help manage workflow in multiple library collections, and provide general support for the Student Success Service Area.
