Position Title: Testing and Activation Manager

Location of Position: United States – Wisconsin – Sturgeon Bay

Business Group: Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding

Department: Production

Position Type: Full-Time; Permanent; Exempt

Reports To: Production Manager

Position Summary: This position is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and completing test and trials activities resulting in delivery of a high quality vessel ready for sea at our vast, 63-acre facility. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront. The successful candidate will support the 1,000 working men and women on our waterfront by communicating with our customer and regulatory inspection teams regarding compliance to applicable rules and regulations, quality of work, and adherence to schedule. Additionally they will schedule, support, and manage system equipment suppliers for commissioning, testing, and acceptance of all systems and equipment onboard.

Detailed Description:

  • Overall safety performance as the ship comes alive through the testing and activation phases.
  • Coordinate with responsible organizations all testing aboard assigned vessels.
  • Monitor equipment operation to ensure proper functioning.
  • Run test meetings, as required.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify if there are errors or defects.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ensure that action items are tracked to closure in a timely manner.
  • Work directly with system suppliers and their delivery teams, as required.
  • Analyze production processes for improvement using various methods of testing and inspection.
  • Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection.
  • Assess progress on production plan and allocate area resources within their stage of construction.
  • Plan production operations, establish priorities and sequences for completion, commissioning, testing and acceptance with their stage of construction.
  • Hold supervisors responsible and accountable for their stage of construction’s performance, including but not limited to, planning and managing resource requirements and overtime to support test schedule.
  • Monitor and report out on performance metrics to the Program Management / Senior Leadership teams.
  • Monitor work environment to ensure safety or adherence to specifications.
  • Maintain equipment on board, such as engines, winches, navigational systems, etc.
  • Observe safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
  • Inspect vessels to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment and conformance to regulations.
  • Complete Safety Observations periodically, assure subordinates meet the goal.
  • Notify others of emergencies, problems, or hazards.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.
  • Abide by safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality Policy.
  • Abide by all organizational policies and procedures.
