Position: Music Therapist

35 hours per week, f/t

Monday- Friday 8:30-3:30

Locations:Long Beach, Hawthorne and San Diego.

For 40 years Able ARTS Work has been providing creative arts services and opportunities for marginalize communities in particular Individuals with developmental disabilities as well as children and adults who are interested in inclusive art exploration.

General Description:

  • Responsible for team development of arts-based curriculum.
  • Work cooperatively with team to assist in providing optimum learning environment for the development of vocational, social, and emotional skills.
  • Support individuals with developmental disabilities in enhancing quality of life.
  • Create class descriptions, lesson plans, and goals and objectives for three to four classes to be taught daily on a semester basis.
  • Participate in monthly training and weekly staff meetings.
  • Basic schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide curriculum that emphasizes and builds on students’ strengths, provide a loving and accepting environment conducive to growth, support the students in independence in all areas, and promote quality of life and full community inclusion.
  • Manage organized and quality classes and events as scheduled. Be flexible, and make appropriate alterations when necessary.
  • Advocate with clients for their needs, concerns, and desires.
  • Represent Able ARTS Work in a professional and articulate manner with students’ families, agencies, and other support professionals.
  • Keep current required certifications (CPR, First Aid, etc.) and professional memberships active.
  • Contribute professional knowledge to team and further professional growth through continuing education, workshops/conferences, and keeping current with academic publications, etc.
  • Assist the team with organizing and coordinating community events, in-house performances and exhibits, and other events related to curriculum.
  • Work cooperatively with team members including other direct support professionals therapists, volunteers, supervisors, interdisciplinary team members.

Qualifications:

  • Maturity, good physical and emotional health.
  • Good common sense, responsible, patient, compassionate, able to support individuals in self-determination.
  • Friendly and personable
  • Employee should be at least 18 years of age

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related instructional field from a college or university of recognized accreditation.
  • Degree in Music Therapy 
  • At least one year experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Preferred: Board Certification
