Basic Function: The Director of Sales provides coaching, leadership, and oversight to ABI’s sales teams; ensuring customers are well served, sales goals are achieved, and sales team members are developed.

Primary Activities & Responsibilities:

Coach and Develop Sales Team Members

  • Research team member activities; understand trends, identify trends, and highlight opportunities for development.
  • Intentionally, passionately, and diligently listen to and learn from sales team members to better understand team member situation, mentality, personality, perspective, and motive.
  • Facilitate regular team and individual meetings to cultivate ABI community and culture, communicate individual and group growth plans, and establish a cadence of accountability for defined development steps. 
  • Provide consistent coaching in method and application.
  • Champion sales, methodology, market, and product training for all new hires as well as continuing education for current sales team members.
  • Strategically foster an environment of humility, positivity, productivity, and growth.
  • Poignantly and consistently encourage teammates, spurring them to personal and professional growth.
  • Ensure adoption and compliance with ABI’s sales methodologies, processes, and data collection practices.

Champion ABI Value and Observe Market Trends

  • Become an expert in all ABI products and the needs of our markets.
  • Become the chief advocate of the ABI customer to ABI internal teams; understanding customer needs, identifying pain points, clarifying sales objections, and communicating observations to the appropriate internal party.
  • Become the chief advocate of ABI value; effectively teaching value propositions by product and customer segments.
  • Intentionally, passionately, and diligently listen to and learn from sales team members to better understand the voice of customers and microtrends.
  • Collaborate with ABI marketing teammates; leveraging customer insights to co-create marketing campaigns.
  • Gain and maintain a working knowledge of the competitive landscape; contributing to marketing projects and training modules as needed.

Direct and Oversee Sales Functions

  • Drive revenue.
  • Win! (by accomplishing goals and quotas)
  • Co-create and communicate sales and activity goals and quotas.
  • Champion throughput of sales processes for all ABI sales segments (Direct, Dealer, International, and OEM); monitoring workflows, identifying constraints, developing solutions, and facilitating appropriate changes.
  • Equip and support the Sales Administration team; remaining available, providing necessary resources and information, and responding to sales team member concerns.
  • Assist People Ops with recruiting and hiring sales team members.

Experience Requirements:

  • Proven work experience in sales, consultation, or similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others
  • History of high integrity workmanship
  • Proven growth and development of professional skills and capacities
  • Familiarity with agriculture, sports turf, and property management industries
  • Familiarity with soil management
  • History of positive team engagement and success
  • Bachelor’s degree in sales, business, communications, or ABI industry-related field

Ideal Candidate:

  • 7 years of successful sales experience
  • 5 years of leadership experience. 
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience successfully coaching others
  • Affinity for and/or experience with agriculture, sports turf, and property management industries
  • Enjoys getting to know and talking with people
  • Understanding and the natural tendency for a consultative sales approach

  • Must be an emotionally intelligent, humble contributor to group goals and company needs
  • Must be a self-motivated and driven learner with a desire to grow and be developed
  • Must have a robust understanding of human interaction
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must have a developed ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems
  • Must be willing to work full-time, in-house
  • Must be willing to participate in overnight travel up to 20 days per year
  • Must be willing to participate in ongoing education
  • Must be proficient in utilizing computers, mobile devices, and core office applications
  • Must have the ability to stand, sit, and see a screen eight hours of the workday
  • Must have the ability to safely lift 50 pounds
  • Must be agreeable to and able to pass random drug testing
