Accountant

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Work Experience Requirements:

  • At least four years of experience working within an accounting or business-office type of setting

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None

Employee Classification:

  • Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products - Word and Excel – required
  • Working knowledge of Sage
  • Intaact accounting software is beneficial
  • The ability to work independently on assignments, perform analytical reviews and be detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy is needed
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills and work well with a team. Confidentiality is a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Fiscal Department with various accounting tasks and duties as assigned
  • Account reconciliations as assigned including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue, etc
  • Assist with the monthly and year end closing processes
  • Preparation of annual external reporting including, but not limited to, PA Escheat and 1099 reporting
  •  Prepare deposits
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements and budget-to- actual department reports
  • Creation and submission of the SWAN invoicing process, including revenue and expense accruals
  • Back up for accounts payable processing
  • Title IV-E assistance
  • Special and nonrecurring and ongoing projects
  • Assist in preparing budgets for various projects/programs and/or grant proposals
  • Depreciation schedule maintenance
  • Assist with billings for various programs
  • Work with auditors on annual and periodic audits
  • Other duties as assigned.

A Second Chance, Inc. (ASCI), is a nonprofit corporation established in 1994. Its mission is to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment to children in the care of relatives or close family friendsformally called kinship care. ASCI is the largest provider of kinship support services to all of Allegheny County, Pa., where it is also headquartered.
